Frank J. Ney fonds

The fonds consists of records documenting Ney's many roles and activities in government (as Mayor of Nanaimo and MLA), in local business, and with local community groups in Nanaimo. Fonds includes Ney's personal appointment books, correspondence (including some as Mayor of Nanaimo and as MLA), legal documents, and speeches; MLA files; records created and accumulated by Ney as Chair of the Nanaimo Centennial Committee, 1967, (including records of the Empire Day Celebration Committee, 1958), as Chair of the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society, as President of Great National Land and Investment Corp., and as President of Nanaimo Realty Ltd.; and, photographs depicting Ney's participation in political and community activities and in land and real estate development. Fonds is arranged in six series: 1) Personal records; 2) MLA records; 3) Nanaimo Centennial Committee; 4) Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society; 5) Great National Land and Investment Corporation; and, 6) Photographs.

Also included are the estate records of individuals for whom Bate served as executor including Maria Snow (Robinson), E. Pimbury, J. Webb, and T.E. Peck. The fonds consists of official commissions as government agent and police magistrate (1909); marriage certificates and childrens' report card and certificates; business correspondence concerning real estate (1892-1899); and letters of administration and estate administration papers for miners who died intestate in an explosion at the Wellington Mine in 1884, including John Lowry, Martin Lowry, Henry Arnold, Barney McGinnes, John Winders, and Domenico Ricono.

The fonds consists of assessment rolls, which list provincial land assessment for Oyster, South Cranberry, Cedar, Cranberry, Douglas, Nanaimo, Mountain, Wellington, Nanoose, Englishman's River, Qualicum, Lasqueti Island, Gabriola Island, Valdes Island, and Alberni. The rolls are listed by name of individual and include property value, income and other taxable details.

Nanaimo Board of Health fonds

Fonds consists of minutes of the Nanaimo Board of Health. The minutes were typically recorded in this volume but occasionally they were recorded in the City Council Minutes. The annual reports (1895-1897) stipulated in the Act were subsequently published in the Sessional Papers. Other minutes within this volume include the minutes of: the Board of Revision (1949-1969), the Market Committee (1945), the Board of Appeal (1949-1957), the Waterworks Committee (1955), Public Hearings (1955-1956) and the Zoning Board of Appeal (1957-1967).
