Local Guelph newsletters collection - Guelph Public Library

This collection consists of local Guelph newsletters created by various organizations and collected by the Guelph Public Library Archives. Included are the newsletters Arts in Guelph, the Sentinel and newsletters produced by the Guelph Historical Society. These records document the various activities and programs offered by local area organizations.

This collection has been arranged into three series.

Charles Fulton collection

Collection consists of items relating to Charles Fulton's personal life, service as a police officer, and death. The majority of the records relate to his funeral. The collection consists of series: Police service records (contains photographs of Fulton's grave and of other officers, newspaper clippings related to Fulton's death, and letters to his widow from the police service) and Family records (contains letters to the widow, scrapbooks, and family photographs).

May Day collection

The collection consists of material relating to May Day celebrations which was a key community event in West Vancouver from 1931 to 1971. The celebrations included installation of a May Day Queen, parades and other ceremonies. After 1971, the celebration was renamed Community Day, and the collection also includes records pertaining to this event.The material includes photographs, registers, scrapbooks, speeches, organizing committee records, and correspondence.

Isabel Maitland Stewart Collection

The collection documents the life of Isabel Maitland Stewart’s including her education, her training as a nurse, and her career as a nurse and educator. The collection consists of certificates, correspondence, articles, photographs, pins, graduation attire and medals. The collection is arranged into six series which document her life from her early education in Ontario and Manitoba through to her reception of honourary degrees following her retirement. Posthumous events created by acquaintances of Isabel Stewart are also included.

SCOPEANDCONTENTS Collection consists of material on a wide variety of topics gathered by Maj Joost for research purposes. Part of the collection contains material on Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Station Shirley’s Bay. Flight logs, pertinent newspaper articles and a register of planes at the base are all included. There are a number of files on mental health in the Canadian Armed Forces, specifically post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This section contains printouts from newspaper articles and websites as well as a report by Ombudsman Andre Marin’s “Special Report: Systematic Treatment of CF Members with PTSD.” There is also information on the Air Forces Amateur Radio System including correspondence, newspaper articles, excerpts from Annual Historical Reports, pages from the 103 Rescue Unit Detachment daily diary and a historical sketch on the Canadian Forces Affiliated Radio System. PDF copies of newspaper articles on a solar eclipse seen in Toronto in 1925 and documented by the RCAF are included. The final group of files includes copies of newspaper articles on various Canadian Forces hockey teams. The articles discuss the games played and player statistics.
