Fonds consists of photographs (negatives, prints, slides, transparencies) taken by Norwood as a professional photographer. The main subject of Norwood's work are scenes and activities on the Halifax waterfront. Other images are of Halifax streets, buildings and activities; Nova Scotian fishing villages and activities relating to fisheries; scenic views of Nova Scotia; and portraits of individuals, some of which were taken in New York City and at Norwood's Halifax studio, including prominent Nova Scotians and military personnel. Other subjects of his photographs include traditional methods of agriculture, coopering, blacksmithing, and transportation; the construction of the Canso Causeway and the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge, Halifax; Springhill Mine disaster; Oak Island treasure hunt; Annapolis Valley Blossom Festival; Lunenburg Bicentennial Celebration; scenes of Halifax during the Second World War, mainly ships in the harbour; SS Empress of Britain leaving Halifax after the Royal visit in 1939; reconstruction of the Halifax Citadel; and the Fairey Aviation Canada plant at Dartmouth. Fonds also contains film footage of inshore fishermen and Annapolis Valley scenes, as well as correspondence, notes, newspaper clippings, and accounts pertaining to photographic equipment and supplies; and assignments with The Halifax Herald Ltd., The Toronto Star and Jack Chisholm Film Productions.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Eaton in the course of his genealogical and historical research of Colchester, Halifax, Hants, and Kings counties, and New England. Includes notes, copies of articles, pamphlets, leaflets, draft manuscripts, chapter outlines, and bound volumes containing extracts of reports from the Society for the Progagation of the Gospel relating to early Nova Scotia. Fonds also contains personal correspondence; sermons; biographical material; auction catalogues; sheet music; and published and unpublished articles and poems, many of which were compiled in bound volumes together with correspondence, notices, reviews, and ephemera. There are also two volumes of personal letters from fellow poet and clergyman, Rev. Robert Norwood, as well as photograph portraits of Eaton and family members, reproductive prints of colonial administrators, royal dignitaries, coat of arms, and postcards depicting churches, buildings, and scenes of Nova Scotian cities and towns.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Jefferson, including memorandums and letters regarding wartime censorship rulings while he was press censor; business and personal correspondence beginning ca. 1911 when Jefferson began his newspaper career in Moncton; scrapbooks containing mostly newspaper clippings and ephemera relating to the First and Second World Wars, naval activities, local and international events, as well as loose newspaper clippings pertaining to the war, Jefferson's career and his articles; notebooks containing descriptions and lists of convoy and other ships arriving at Halifax harbour during the 1940s; some notes and printed material on Nova Scotia railroads; a few letters written by servicemen in Europe, 1915-1916; and assorted maps. Fonds also contains photographs (negatives and prints) taken by Jefferson and professional photographers between ca. 1898 and the 1950s, depicting army and navy personnel; navy vessels, including those damaged by torpedos; war brides; Sydney, N.S. citizens and businesses; and a small number of family photographs. Photographs are found both separately and among the textual records.

Fonds consists of deeds, commissions, receipts, account books, letters, legal records, and probate records of the Chesley family of Annapolis County. The majority of the material was created and accumulated by Maj. Samuel Chesley, his son Capt. Samuel Moore Chesley, and brother Benjamin Chesley, concerning legal cases and the Annapolis County Court, and property transactions.

Fonds consists of records documenting the administration and operation of Large's newspaper The 4th Estate. Fonds contains case and subject files which contain correspondence, memoranda, legal and financial records, reports, newspaper clippings, notes, draft manuscripts, and other items. Also includes files relating to Voices Down East, a literary publication of The 4th Estate established in 1972, which featured Maritime writers. Photographs which appeared in The 4th Estate are also found among the textual records. Also contains two VHS videocassettes entitled '4th Estate' (1977) and 'South Africa' (1986).

Fonds consists of two scrapbooks compiled by Agnes Dennis, containing newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, and invitations relating to her career activities, the Victorian Order of Nurses and Local Council of Women, Halifax. Also contains newspaper clippings concerning her husband, Senator William Dennis and daughter, Dr. Clara Dennis. Scrapbooks predominantly cover the period 1908 to 1947 but include items added years later by family member(s).

Fonds consists of sermons, correspondence, and other records relating to Rev. James Boyle Uniacke. Most sermons contain the date(s) and church location(s), and others indicate the occasion, such as an individual's funeral. Correspondence includes letters received by Uniacke from family members, including his uncle William Black and siblings Florence and Norman Fitzgerald Uniacke; from fellow clergymen such as James J. Hill; and also from parishioners, friends, and acquaintances. Letters discuss personal and family news and parish matters. Also includes a small number of his outgoing letters, mainly written to the bishop of Nova Scotia, as well as several letters addressed to his wife Mary. Fonds also contains personal accounts, legal documents, certificates, copies of articles and newspaper clippings, receipts and financial statements, relating to St. George's and St. Mark's Church and St. Mark's school house, Halifax; Mount Uniacke estate; the estate of James W. Merkel; and the Diocesan Church Society.

Fonds consists of annual meeting minutes and reports of the co-op, 1935-1969; registration books, 1934-1973; minutes of executive directors meetings, 1930-1968, committee meetings, 1939-1958; and local managers meetings, 1957-1959; financial statements, 1931-1972 (incomplete), and other financial records, 1930-1976; correspondence 1935-1966; memoranda and notices, 1940-1974; constitution and by-laws, 1930-1947; legal records, 1915-1973; bulletins, 1931-1947; resolutions, 1939-1951; newspaper clippings, 1936-1980; reports and briefs, 1933-1940, 1951-1966; scrapbooks, 1937-1974; subject files; and miscellaneous material. Alexander H. Leighton fonds

Fonds consists of photographs (negatives, contact prints, selected enlargements, and slides) created and accumulated in the course of the Stirling County Study directed by Leighton. The fonds consists primarily of prints and negatives taken by chief photographer John Collier Jr. which depict Digby County, Nova Scotia, including the communities of Digby, Bear River, Cape St. Marys, Freeport, Westport, Weymouth, and numerous others. Includes images of traditional industries (agriculture, fishing, logging, and family businesses), family, social, and religious events, schools, churches, housing, residents, and general views and landscapes. Other photographs include aerial views of the study site taken by the Royal Canadian Air Force; scenes of Digby County from various sources; the Navajo community at Fruitland, New Mexico, USA, relating to a parallel study at Cornell University; and a small number of photographs accumulated by Leighton during his travels to Europe and Africa. Fonds also includes 16mm film reels containing mostly raw footage and work prints relating to the study in Digby and parallel studies in Nigeria and New York, as well as two documentary films shot by Leighton; one film entitled "Porpoise Oil" was produced in collaboration with the Mi'kmaq of the Bear River Reserve in 1936 and features a re-enactment of traditional hunting methods.

Georgia H. Cunningham fonds

Fonds consists of negatives taken by Georgia H. Cunningham for clients who patronized her commercial studio. The geographic area represented by the fonds is almost exclusively Bridgetown, N.S. and its environs. Cunningham's work is primarily portraiture although from 1942 onwards there are a number of photographs of school classes and societies as well as the Bridgetown Salvation Army Citadel. Approximately five percent of the photographs include views of shopfronts, buildings, churches, streets, scenery and special events such as the visit of the Bishop of Nova Scotia to St. James Anglican Church in 1946. Also includes a few glass plate negatives which may have been taken by previous commercial studio owners Joseph Rice or Edith Crosskill, as well as negatives and prints left with her by clients for processing or given to her by others. Fonds also contains a photograph and three letters concerning Dr. Otto Srasser (1898-1974) a Nazi exile who lived in Paradise, N.S. for fifteen years.
