Ralph W. Smith fonds

This fonds consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence of Ralph Smith primarily during his tenure as mayor of Guelph. In addition, there is one appointment book dating from 1965 and one file containing assorted material such as newspapers clippings, an agenda from the 1967 Guelph Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting, post cards, and a copy of minutes from the meeting of the Elliot Board in 1968. These records are arranged alphabetically by file title.

Collection consists of photographs and corresponding textual records for an inventory of homes built in Guelph before 1927. The inventory was created and/or accumulated by Gordon Couling, an artist and architectural expert.

Records are arranged alphabetically into series by street name and then generally by street number, often with even numbered buildings filed separately from odd numbered buildings.

Jim G. Dempsey collection - Guelph Public Library

Collection consists of letters, photographs, and postcards received by way of correspondence between Linda Kearns, former archivist, and Jim G. Dempsey. The photographs and postcards are of soldiers in military dress or uniform. Included are pictures of William Pearson a Guelph native who died in the First World War. Other photographs include civilians, possibly relatives of Mr. Dempsey, and photographs of a pilgrimage he took to the battlefields of the First World War in the 1980s.

The textual components consist of three letters one written by William Pearson and another by a comrade who served with him. A third letter was addressed to Mrs. Pearson by an army chaplain. This letter provided news of her son’s death. Also of interest is a Guelph Evening Mercury Newspaper edition with an article about William Pearson’s death.

This fonds consists of scrapbooks, correspondence, newspaper clippings, historical publications, manuscripts, and other assorted material. These records were created, collected, or maintained by Greta Shutt to document various aspects of Guelph history including family history material for the Crowe, Shutt, Skinner, Watson, and Raymond families; compilations of earlier published histories of Guelph and related manuscript material; source material for Donald B. Shutt's autobiography; copies of early Guelph Historical Society publications; and copies of Greta and Donald Shutt's local history paper The Clarion.

Fonds consists of records related to the management of the Peerless Machine and Tool Company. Included in this fonds are two minute books for 1964-1990 and 1982-2000, containing the company's charter, by-laws, shareholder and Director's registers, securities ledgers, and share certificates. Also included are promotional materials, 1950-1962 shipment records, photographs of the Peerless plant circa 1930 and drawings of Peerless products. These records document the management of the Peerless Machine and Tool Company of Guelph. The records are arranged by subject.

The fonds consists of two accessions, both containing various records specific to particular members of the Guttormsson/Guttormson, Johannesson, Anderson, and Russell families. Particularly dominant in the family records found in the first accession (A14-70) are Einar Guttormsson, Stephan Guttormsson, Frederikka Elizabeth Johannesson, Asdis Sigrun Anderson, Hinrik Guttormson, and James Watt. Thus, the accession has been organized into series or subject files featuring each of these family members. The first series contains the records of Einar Guttormsson. The second series is made up of the records of Stephan Guttormsson. The third series comprises the effects of Frederikka Elizabeth Johannesson. The fourth series features Asdis Sigrun (Guttormsson) Anderson's personal effects. The fifth series contains the records of Hinrik Guttormson. The seventh series consists of the work of James Watt. The eighth series contains general family history and familial records. The ninth series contains Oversize Materials.

Accession A14-74 contains original correspondence from young soldiers Private Fredrik and Sergeant Hinrik Guttormson as they served in World War Two.

This fonds consists of material on the aboriginal history, culture, education, health, housing, and politics. Walter Rudnicki was an active participant in many of the subjects collected by him in the course of his life. In the most cases, this material is organized into themes and contains correspondence, government documents, reports, press releases, newspaper clippings, and documents of many aboriginal organizations and their leaders.
