This fonds consists of correspondence; agreements; brochures; administrative materials, photographs, official reports; newspaper clippings; newsletters, financial records and other materials relating to the daily operation of the Parks and Recreation Department. Processed materials have been divided into five series. Wherever possible this division was done with respect to the original order of the fonds. The five series are Administrative records (1945-1972); Facilities and Programs records (1924-1969); Community League records (1946-1967); Cemetery records (1918-1966); and Universiade '83 records (1977-1984).

The fonds consists of materials created by the City of Edmonton Planning Department from 1910 to 1961. The fonds consists of these series: Plancheckers (1910-1974) The series consists of blueprints, photographs and correspondence from the Plancheckers files of the Planning Department. Some of the more extensive records deal with alterations to and/or construction of major municipal buildings or facilities such as the 1957 City Hall, the Fire Department Garage, the Municipal Golf Course, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the Cloverdale Incinerator, the Police Station, and Electrical Sub-Stations. Additionally, some early bylaws are available. Blueprints range in date from 1910 to 1966, but residential records date primarily from 1946 to 1951, except for extensive Beverly residential records dating from 1952 to 1961 transferred with the amalgamation of the Town of Beverly. Most other records in this fonds are of local business buildings or multi-unit residential construction. Names of architects or architectural firms have been noted to facilitate searches by that topic. Also located in this series are sign permits for various businesses from 1968. An additional section of this series consists of varying degrees of building history (lease information, additions and alterations, repairs, fires, signage, and appraisals before demolition permits have been issued). These records date primarily from the 1960s. 2. Miscellaneous (ca. 1960- ca. 1990) The seers consists of uncatalogued materials created by the Planning Department. The series consists of replots, reports, Town Planning Commission minutes, Names Advisory Committee minutes, Winter Cities 1988 convention documents and other materials.
