The scrapbook belonging to Bertha MacKenzie McNeill contains clippings, mainly from Prince Edward Island newspapers, about a variety of topics of interest to the owner. A large percentage of articles are about Islanders and other Canadians in World War II. Subjects of other clippings include royalty, marriages, deaths and prominent news items.

The collection consists of 5 images of John MacLean, the Charlottetown Hose Team (1901)which includes two Teed brothers, a violin class which includes Thelma Teed, C. D. Rankin's drugstore, and a class at the Charlottetown Technical School 1923/24.

This collection consists of a photograph of a stone cottage in Long River, Prince Edward Island, lived in at the time of the photograph by Bella MacKay and her children. The child standing in front of the cottage is ? MacKay, later Mrs. Lester Champion. The house in the photograph was built on the lot next to William Wheeler's grandfather in Long River. It has been destroyed since the photograph was taken.

This collection consists of a listing of aerial photographs of PEI available locally, an article on forestry in PEI by Rev. Father Burke (1902), and two compilations of PEI legislation, one having to do with forestry and one with wildlife.

The collection consists of a volume of the Winter Mail Service Boatmen's Attendance book (1890-1896); a notebook listing doubtful voters from Milton, North River, and North Wiltshire; and sixteen photographs primarily of sports events but including one of the interior of the railway shop in Charlottetown. The earlier portion of the Attendance book has been used as a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about harness racing in Prince Edward Island and the Maritimes (1911-1916).

The collection consists of two photographs of the West River/New Dominion area in the 1930s. The first depicts men and boy with boxes and barrels on the wharf at New Dominion. The ferry "Harland" is in the background. The second is an image of the New Dominion Church.

Black family collection

The collection contains miscellaneous items of PEI historical interest collected by the Black family. These include primary sources re. Sherwood Cemetery (1872/3), advertisements from Charlottetown businesses, and a temperance broadsheet. Secondary sources include notes on the Charlottetown district of St. Avard's, a biographical sketch of Robert Alder McLeod, an article by C. F. Black entitled "Prince Edward Island as postally recollected" in 1997 issues of The Canadian Philatelist as well as copies of newspaper articles re. automobiles in PEI by W. K. Rogers (1934), and Province House by Henry Smith (1935). The collection also contains 9 photographs of the Dennis, Raynor and Woodman fox farms and 9 postcards primarily of Charlottetown scenes.

Boer War letter to James Robert Stewart

This letter was written from Bloemfontein, South Africa on 29 March 1900 by "Lorne" during the South African Boer War and was sent to James Robert Stewart of Bayview, Prince Edward Island. In the letter, Lorne (whose surname is unknown) describes the conditions of soldiers in the British Army during the war. Lorne outlines how he was under fire four times, participated in one of the hardest marches ever performed by the British Army, slept in wet clothes, fought all day without eating, and drank from the Modder River as rotting horses, mules, oxen, and dead Boers floated by.

The creator is unknown, identified only as "Lorne".

James Robert Stewart was born 1 September 1864 and lived and farmed in Bayview, Prince Edward Island. In 1891, he married Jennie Ingles Bulman of New Glasgow. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart died in 1939 and 1940, respectively, and are buried together in the Cavendish / Presbyterian United Cemetery.
