Olson & Sons Meat Market fonds

The fonds consists of 2 hand-written accounts books belonging to John Olson, who established Olson & Sons Meat Market in Sexsmith: a 1928 cash book for the meat market, and a notebook used by John Olson when attending the Lutheran College in 1912-1913. There is also one photograph of a 4-H Beef Steer purchased by Olsons ca. 1980.

Also consists of Ken's pharmacy notebooks, prescription books, financial statements, advertisements, circulars to customers, lease agreements, and miscellaneous pharmacy records. Includes recorded interviews with Wahnita and Ken Penley.

William J. Noll fonds

The fonds consists of a journal kept by William J. Noll from about 1914 to 1925. It records events in his life including homesteading in the Peace River Country, enlisting in the RNWMP and WWI, working in various industries including Oregon's lumber camps, and becoming an early commercial pilot in Oregon. The journal includes written entries, photographs, posters, some employment records, receipts, tickets, cards, and newspaper clippings. Several other loose records are inserted into the pages of the journal, including a WWI medal, Great War Veterans Association membership booklet, 1935 US naturalization papers, correspondence about his homestead and petroleum and natural gas leases, [ca. 1952] USAF course application, and 1917 Canadian naturalization papers. Two pages of genealogical notes presumed to have been written by Clem Kinderwater are also inserted.

The journal ends rather abruptly in January 1925 as William is on his way from El Paso to Portland. The final entry states "Contd in next book." Subsequent book(s) have unfortunately been lost.

The original order of the journal has been maintained, including the original position of inserted material.

The fonds consists of scrapbooks containing photographs, stories, paper artifacts, and news clippings covering the history of Hythe from the time it was established as a townsite on the NAR railway in 1929 into the 21st Century. There are also albums of the Hythe Homecoming in 1978, the opening of the Hythe Golden Age Craft Centre in 1981, and Celebrate Hythe in 1989; one album of people and buildings in Hythe ca. 1970-2000. There are also two scrapbooks containing 198 memorial cards to tell us about the people who lived in Hythe, and a loose collection of photographs which cover the history of Hythe from 1916-2007.

The paper records consist of receipts from various Hythe businesses: Frederick Tite, H.W. Reich, Frontier Lumber Company, W.R. Salmers, A.L. MacRae, Harold S. Tveten, Robert Reid, McLeod & Inkster, Chartier Bros., J.P. Gerlinger, F.F. Perdue, G.B. Howlett, E. Hansen, Oakfords, Peasron Garage, Geo. A. Pollock, Light & Swanston Ltd. And F. Adams and Son.

The photographs are described in the order in which they appeared in the scrapbooks.

The fonds consists of memorandum of association, minutes, correspondence with clients and other advertising bodies, financial records, and legal agreements of the Hook Signs companies. Also includes extensive photos of billboards and wall signs which were proof of performance of work carried out in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and many southern Alberta towns.

Croken Family fonds

The records consist of photographs and personal records from Patty and Rudy Croken and Jennie (Tomshak) Croken. They include P.V. Croken financial records from the P.V Croken Store; Patty’s correspondence from 1956-1973; personal income tax returns for Rudy & Jennie Croken from 1953-1958, and for Patty & Daisy Croken from 1958-1966; farm accounts and wheat board certificates; the papers for building Rudy & Jennie’s home in 1954; and a story about working in the Post Office, written by Jennie Croken in 2014. The photographs are a wide assortment of subjects from the Peace Celebration in Grande Prairie in 1919, to Jennie on her travels in 1986.

Halcourt Cemetery fonds

The fonds consists of a cemetery record book including the minutes from the Halcourt Church Board of Trustees meeting of April 24, 1922, appointing trustees Theodore Cleland, Thomas G. Cotton, William Dorin, Bertha Chambers, Thomas G. Chambers; and minutes from a meeting of June 10, 1946, at Halcourt where F. Brewer, B.O. Cleland, and Art Funnell discuss "the matter of the Municipality taking over the Halcourt Cemetery". Burials are recorded by date, or by family grouping. There is also a section containing names and payments for plots and remarks, and another section containing names of deceased, sex, age, date of death, date of burial, cause of death and officiating clergyman. Pages 148-152 records burials dated 1968-2009. Early pioneer family names appearing in the burial records include Funnell, Ingledew, McNaught, McEachern, Schenk, Cleland, Holmes, Churchman, Walker, and Booth. The last burial entry date recorded is in 2009. A newsclipping (undated) thanks Albert Hill, Larry Dahl, and Herman Kreiger for making wooden crosses to be used as markers, Fletcher Smith for the donation of lumber, and Bill Dahl and Peter McNaughton for setting the crosses in their places.

The fonds also contains two maps showing the locations of plots in the original Halcourt Cemetery and in the addition to the Cemetery (1954) with initials and names of plot occupants marked.

The fonds consists of a customer accounts book for the general store, which records the sale of a wide variety of goods, including clothing (shoes, rubbers, skates, slippers, shoe laces, gloves, kerchiefs, overalls, underwear, stockings, shirts, caps); horse-related items (curry comb, horse brushes, harnesses, traces, lariats, halters, sweat pads); and hardware (pump rods, plow pulleys, sheet iron, rivets, bolts, nails, screws, paint, door pulls, pie tins, fly swatters, axle grease). Regular customers included W.D. Braden, C.L. Coonfer, Fariplay School, George Henderson, A. Hickle, A.G. Gosling, Ed Linkhart, Theo Lowe, E. Moe, James Rae, Carl Wenstrom, George Whitney, George Winters the Women's Institute, and many others.
