Fonds consists of notes, newspaper clippings, copies of articles, pamphlets, correspondence, and other items created and accumulated by Shand in the course of her research. Under the general subject of the early history of Hants County, topics include industry, ships and ship builders, families, churches, and recreation. Family names include Cunningham, Ellerhausen, Harris, Monk, Vaughn, and several others. Fond also contains an index to shipping registers and ship captains in Hants and Kings counties; certificates, estate records, and other personal documents relating to Shand, her family; and legal and financial records relating to Sarah and Thomas Aylward, 1861-1880s.

Fonds consists of correspondence, 1880-1897, shipping records 1875-1912, and financial records, 1880-1908, including Captain Levi Atkins' account books. The records document the company's business transactions and relationships with business associates such as the J.F. Whitney & Company, New York, and Arkell Brothers Wholesale & Export Clothiers, Cardiff, as well as activities of ship's captains who managed vessels for the company. Fonds also includes records documenting transactions and events occuring through regular shipping and travel between ports, such as change of crew members, conflicts, bills of health, and cargo manifests, 1875-ca.1900. After the company changed hands in 1895 the records document limited shipping activites as well as Spicer family and farming activities. Also includes a blueprint drawing of a ship.

Nichols family fonds

Fonds consists of records documenting the personal and business activities of the Nichols family and related individuals, predominantly Rev. E.E.B. Nichols and his father George K. Nichols. Includes diaries kept by E.E.B. Nichols, 1875-1884, while rector of Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool which mention daily weather, activities, services and ceremonies performed (fragmentary). An earlier diary, 1846-1868, contains the number of sermons, type and number of ceremonies, sick visits, missionary visits, and other activities peformed by Nichol each month. Correspondence includes letters written between E.E.B. Nichols and family members and acquaintances, 1830s-1890. Fonds also includes business correspondence, receipts, and accounts of George K. Nichols, 1827-1852, and some personal letters written and received by him, and his grandson George Everard Edgehill Nichols, 1896-1900; ledger, 1816-1821, and day book, 1826-1829, of George K. Nichols; correspondence, accounts and other items pertaining to Peleg and Mary Wiswall, 1807 onwards, and their son-in-law Charles Budd; a few Lynch family letters, 1941; wills of a few residents of Liverpool, Milton, and Western Head, Queens Co.; Trinity Anglican Church Sunday School and confirmation class rosters, 1876-1882; accounts for the Liverpool Marine Railway Company, 1862-1886; and other miscellaneous items. Records document social and political life in Digby and Halifax, business and property transactions, dental and medical health, education, travel, temperance, Anglican church issues including divisions in church and divorce, and also mention King's College and Digby Board of Health. Fonds also includes photographs of Anglican clergymen and Trinity Anglican Church and Liverpool Public School, taken by various local professional photographers including Notman and Parish and Co., 1860s-1870s.

Fonds consists of original and typed copies of correspondence, 1767-1812 (fragmentary) written and received by Rev. Nehemiah Porter and his son Nehemiah Porter Jr. Includes letters from Rev. Porter to his children in Massachusetts and Yarmouth, and letters written to Nehemiah Porter Jr. in Yarmouth from his father and siblings. Letters include mention of work, travel, family news, and religious reflection. Fonds also contains deeds, indentures, will, and other documents, mostly concerning the estate of Rev. Porter and property in Yarmouth; "Journal from N. England to Capeforsoe in Nova Scotia" kept by Rev. Porter, 1767-1769, which includes mention of his parishioners, sermons and ceremonies performed, travels, family activities, and weather. Also included in the fonds are photograph portraits, 1898, and prints of Rev. Porter's children and grandchildren, and Porter and Chipman family residences; indenture and photograph of indenture concerning the apprenticehip of David Dire, African-Nova Scotian; and letter and receipt dated 1860 pertaining to Capt. Porter at Yarmouth.

Fonds consists of records mainly created and accumulated by the corporation during its operations in Nova Scotia. Contains extensive upper management correspondence (13 top company officers), including that of Peter Munk, the company co-founder and president, and other top officers such as the vice-president, general manager, and controller, as well as lesser officials such as the purchasing director, engineer, and marketing and sales manager. Some of these files include annual and other major reports, minutes of director's meetings, policy manuals and official financial statements. There are also separate sections consisting of financial statements and other major corporate records such as annual reports, procedural manuals, and legal agreements, as well as marketing files (including product and promotional photographs and literature), and engineering department records such as quality control manuals and product blueprints.

George Patterson fonds

Fonds consists of draft chapters of Patterson's work entitled "Pioneers of Presbyterianism in the Maritime Provinces of Canada" and manuscript of "French Protestant Emigration to Nova Scotia"; correspondence regarding his research on James MacGregor, including letters written to Patterson, 1857-1858, discussing MacGregor's life, missionary activities, and personal character, as well as four letters written from Rev. James Thomsen to MacGregor, 1820, 1821, 1825, 1870, which include mention of the fire at Miramichi, congregational matters, and the state of religion in Nova Scotia. Among the correspondence is related research material, some concerning the division of the Pictou congregation, such as extracts of letters, documents, and minutes for the Church of Scotland; and poems. Fonds also includes notebooks with extracts from letters of many Presbyterian ministers to the Colonial Society in Scotland and biographical notes on Presbyterian ministers and missionaries, 1829-1834, 1863; two scrapbooks containing clippings, correspondence, and notes concerning Indians, 1878-1894, and Pictou County history and clergymen, 1858-1888; and a journal kept while Patterson was a student at Edinburgh University, 1847-1848.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Acadia Gas Engines of Bridgewater, N.S. and its associated companies, Acadia Stationary Engines Limited and Acadia Motor Car and Truck Company. Includes minutes of directors and shareholders meetings, 1908-1921; business correspondence, 1920-1952; appraisal reports on machinery and equipment, 1922-1927; original and microfilmed scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, memoranda, notices, advertisements, photographs, and ephemera, 1922-1966; sales reports; financial statements, 1909-1947; patent documents; company catalogues, product literature and price lists; 1920-1951; and other related material. Fonds also contains technical drawings (working drawings and blueprints), 1928-1971, illustrating various marine engine models, parts for vessels including hydraulic pumps, hoists, and gears, Chevrolet automobile engines, and a file of architectural building plans. Includes drawings by Hercules Motor Corporation, Leyland Motor Company, Canadian Department of Defense, and others. Photographs contained in the fonds, ca. 1912-1962, include views of various engine models and parts, interior and exterior views of the Bridgewater building and facilities, exhibition displays including the Nova Scotia Fisheries Exhibition, a small number of images of W.T. Ritcey and other officers, the Ritcey residence, and advertising slides mostly of the Acadia logo.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Jones in the course of his political activities, including typescripts of correspondence to and from leading Nova Scotian politicians, printed copies of resolutions and petitions, and newspaper clippings relating to the anti-Confederation movement in Nova Scotia and elections, 1864-1882; letter book kept while Jones was minister of militia and defence, 1878; thirty-six letters written to Jones from Hon. Alexander MacKenzie, prime minister, mostly of a private political nature, 1869-1885; speeches, including one made as Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, 1902; and military commissions. Also contains a file of personal correspondence, newspaper clippings, legal documents, and ephemera, most of which pertains to the Jones family and genealogy, 1846 onwards.

Bailly family fonds

Fonds consists of deeds and other items predominantly accumulated by Georges-Frederic Bailly and his son Joseph Bailly concerning property in Lunenburg, 1754-1824. Also includes deeds of property later acquired by the Bailly family and an account dated 1827, playing cards used to draw lots of land in Lunenburg, baptismal certificate, Georges-Frederick Bailly's certificate of naturalization, and two bound note books of his entitled, "Abrege de 16 discours, sur la redemption des hommes par la mort de Christ", 1780, which contains some notes on the Bailly family, and "Les degres de la vie spirituelle representes dan la vie interieure de Theodore de Brakel ministre de l'eglise de Makum en Frise [Holland]", 1775, written for his son Joseph.
