John S. Scott fonds

This fonds consists of a diary kept by John S. Scott during the First World War, from 1916 to 1919. It includes notes relating to the outfitting of soldiers and the transport of men, equipment, and supplies overseas. It also contains diary entries concerning the movement of troops and the activities of men at the front (France), as well as relating to Scott's activities in England during the immediate post-war period, prior to his return to Canada in 1919.

The fonds also contains a few military orders, passes, rationing orders, personal bills, memoranda, and telegrams. Lastly it includes a programme of a grand concert held aboard H. M. Troopship "Canada" in March 1919, a copy of a statutory declaration of John Smith Scott probably signed about 1918, and a few newspaper clippings.

This collection consists of two letters from Col. P.L. Browne, Director of the Division of Voluntary War Relief in the Department of National Health and Welfare. One of the letters encloses a letter from Sir Ellsworth Flavelle outlining the purposes of the United Emergency Fund and appealing for assistance from various organizations across Canada.

This fonds consists of the administrative records of the Ladies Auxiliary Command to the New Brunswick Command the Royal Canadian Legion. It contain minutes of meetings (1928-1939, 1951-1970), copies of the constitution and by-laws (1928-1979), and a printed copy of a brief history of the Ladies Auxiliary Command by Vesta R. Morell (1979). The history has been moved to MC80/62.

It also contains the Applications for Membership, 1925-2000, organized by Branch.

Fraser family

The collection contains a muster roll of Captain John Fraser's company of the 1st Battalion of Gloucester militia based in Bathurst, 1839-1842. It includes lists of men at each annual muster, with their rank. The roll covers the period of the Aroostook War when the militia was called out throughout New Brunswick. It includes a list of aliens resident in the district for each year.

Also included are three letters, 1799-1800, from Alex Fraser to his parents in Inverness-shire, Scotland. They recount his voyage from Fort Augustus to Glasgow, then onward to Cove (Cobh), Ireland and St. Vincent in the West Indies. There is a letter dated 1812, appointing Alex Fraser to the militia in Inverness. An album containing coloured Christmas cards and a very few Easter and St. Valentine's cards from 1878 is also included. Four photographs of the family have been transferred to the Photograph Section.

The letter, dated 20 January 1813, contains a list of supplies that men from the company were supposed to bring with them if assembled in a case of emergency. The list included clothing, a blanket and some sort of carrying case.

World War I letter

This two-page letter was written at the front in Belgium on 29 April 1915 to Neta by Art, a soldier of the 8th Battery, 2nd Canadian Artillery Brigade, 1st Canadian Contingent, British Expeditionary Force. It details his worries and impressions concerning activities at the front and his chances of survival.

This fonds consists of photocopies of correspondence between Captain G. Nicolls and Captain J. Maclauchlan. The letters discuss the availability and suitability of vessels on the St. John River in New Brunswick for use as gunboats and troop transports in case of action against the Americans during the War of 1812. Detailed specifications of the costs and designs for modifying existing vessels are included.
