Alberta Ministry of Employment, Immigration and Industry fonds

The fonds consists of executive, administrative and operational records generated in the performance of the following functions:; administration and provision of social allowance, income support and other public welfare programs; services to families, including maintenance enforcement and mediation; appeal panels for various service programs; program delivery through regional offices; financial management for the department;personnel management for the department;program planning and development; and;union certification and administration of collective agreements. The fonds contains records of the Workers' Compensation Board, the Personnel Administration Office, and the Labour Relations Board. Information about the records of these subordinate agencies may be found in the respective sous-fonds descriptions. The Ministry of Employment, Immigration and Industry fonds also contains records relating to child welfare programs. These records were retained by the Department of Family of Social Services and came into the custody of the Ministry of Employment, Immigration and Industry before their transfer to the Provincial Archives. The fonds contains correspondence, reports and statistics, a wide variety of types of case files, reference material for the use of the Department's executive officers, collective agreements, committee agendas and minutes, applications, briefing papers and publications. <p>The collection consists of records from a wide variety of sources that are all related to progressive movements and the Canadian left. There are particularly large amounts of records from the Alberta New Democrats and the Strathcona NDP constituency association as well as material from the Alberta Federation of Labour, the Woodsworth-Irvine Socialist Fellowship, and the Edmonton Women's Coalition. <p>The NDP material consists of committee files from the Edmonton NDP Anti-War Committee, the Women's Committee, and the Environment Committee; scrapbooks and documents created by Franklin Foster related to his 1975 NDP campaign for the Bonnyville MLA seat; Alberta New Democrat publications, magazines, and reports; and minutes and administrative files from the Strathcona NDP constituency. <p>In addition to the Franklin Foster NDP material, there is also a copy of an abridged version of Foster's PhD dissertation on John E. Brownlee. <p>The non-NDP material consists of a conference packet from the 1965 Summer Seminar of the Woodsworth-Irvine Socialist Fellowship; several papers and research documents published by leftist and progressive organizations such as the Revolutionary Marxist Group (Saskatchewan), the Woodsworth-Irvine Socialist Fellowship, and the Edmonton Women's Coalition; newsletters and pamphlets from the Edmonton Women's Coalition; several issues of The Other Alberta Report, a progressive compendium of Alberta-focused news analysis; and Alberta Federation of Labour publications.</p>

Scott, Bisset, and McPherson family fonds

The fonds consists of records created and/or collected by members of the Scott, Bisset, and McPherson families as well as related branches. The records include correspondence, diaries, clerical documents, family photographs, cookbooks, professional writings, and genealogical information. The records relate to such subjects as the domestic and professional lives of women across the 20th century; Albertan legal history; Albertan religious life and history; the evolution of public morality from the late 19th to the 21st centuries; the evolution of etiquette, entertainment, and home economics in the same period; and military records related to both the First and Second World Wars, including Canadian involvement in the armed forces and life on the home-front.

The series consists of correspondence, photographs, speeches, professional writings, memoirs, records related to his legal and municipal career, records related to his family's time in North Dakota, personal recollections related to the First and Second World Wars, certificates, and diplomas. There are also many records related to Bisset's career as a judge and City Alderman. These include copies of speeches, reports, correspondence, council material from the Dominion Conference of Mayors held in Montreal in 1935, photographs of the inauguration of Overland Mail Route (1943), and Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities conferences records.
