Albert Charles Barnes fonds

The fonds primarily consists of black and white photographs taken by Barnes, of scenes along the Alaska Highway, and in Dawson City and Whitehorse during the 1940s. One series of photographs includes captions by Barnes; another series consists of small snapshot albums containing photographs taken along the Alaska Highway between northern British Columbia and the Alaska border, with several of the Teslin area. Other images include buildings, planes, vehicles, sternwheelers, First Nations cemetery and crafts, a giant mosquito and various individuals. There are also photographs of events at Dawson City: parades; a gathering of the Yukon Order of Pioneers (YOOP) in Dawson City; a Governor-General's visit to Dawson City; Charles Barnes and his home and offices in Dawson City. There are also 30 postcards included in the fonds, one addressed to Barnes' mother. The fonds is arranged in four series : Postcards; Captioned photographs; Photographs from Snapshot Booklets; Assorted photographs. Included with the fonds is an identification key for 28 of the photographs.

No. 1393 in the Arctic Brotherhood Hall February 1914; a fire in Dawson City, Yukon February 1917; and a group on the Midnight Dome June 21, 1918. Also included are photocopies of the photos indicating Mrs. Knottner's mother, father and sisters.

The fonds consists of photographs of sternwheelers on the Yukon River including the sternwheeler Klondike; sternwheelers pushing barges; the Nasutlin, Keno and Casca moored at Whitehorse wharf; different views of the crew working on the boats, including guiding the boat through Five Finger Rapids; a view of the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) depot with a passenger car and the derrick in operation in the foreground; loading horses onto a sternwheeler; wood camps and crew loading wood and an old truck onto a sternwheeler; a view of Dawson City; the Mayo waterfront with stacked bags of ore, and horses; sternwheeler slough near Lake Laberge; and close-ups of the paddle wheel on a sternwheeler. Also included is a photograph of Lou Morton who was Alex Courquin's mentor. Textual records include a letter from Arnold Roos, Parks Canada Historian, to Mr. Courquin, a song "Yukon Memories" written by Jim Wylie, and a copy of Mr. Courquin's working papers with WP&YR.
