Collection consists of approximately 630 playing card sets from many parts of the world. The collection reflects not only Dr. Johnston's collecting passion but also his desire that the collection provide research material complementing resources in the Eugene Strens Recreational Mathematics Collection. During his lifetime, Dr. Johnston had also speculated on the possibility of inviting designs for University of Calgary playing cards which could be used for fund raising purposes to support the music archives collection.

The collection consists of 71 images, originally dating from 1914 to 1958, of schools, churches, sports teams, stores, bands, automobiles, ferries, coal mines, bicycles, horses and carriages, weddings, and Ukrainian Associations, all primarily in the Redwater, Alberta area and includes Redwater, Radway, Egremont, Eldorena, Waskatenau, Vinca, Opal and Fedorah, as well as Skaro, Brule, and Drumheller.

The collection consists of articles, plans, photographs and slides pertaining to the construction and history of the Prince of Wales Hotel.

The collection consists of an album of unaddressed postcards, including color lithographs of the Red Ensign emblazoned with the Alberta coat of arms, images of First Nations peoples of southern Alberta, lithographs of drawings and paintings by Charles M. Russell and other Western artists, black-and-white and tinted views of the Rocky Mountains along the CPR line, action shots of the 1912 Calgary Stampede photographed by Marcell, action shots of the 1916 Moose Jaw Stampede photographed by Weeks Pugh, action shots of a 1915 stampede in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, action shots of the Vulcan Stampede, views of the Capilano Suspension Bridge in North Vancouver and of the Vancouver Court House, and a view of Swalwell, Alberta.

Consists of a series of reports and pamphlets relating to municipal government in Edmonton between 1934 and 1967. There is also a 1939 edition of "The Bay Breeze," published by the Hudson's Bay Company. The collection also consists of materials collected by the Provincial Archives of Alberta related to the 1978 Commonwealth and the 1983 University Games. This fonds consists of various publications relating to the two games including programmes, venue schedules, newsletters, team handbooks, magazine coverage and souvenir books.

The images are of Plamondon, originally dating circa 1900 to the 1950s, and include students, canoe-building, store interiors and exteriors, buildings, post offices, houses and house building, horses, automobiles, churches, baseball teams, funerals, families, nuns, picnics and other social gatherings and views of Plamondon and area.

Collection consists of copied photographs dated 1883-1917 that depict various people, buildings, and views in Pincher Creek, Alberta including a sawmill, Hotel Arlington, the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) store interior, a hockey rink, street views, log buildings, horses, carts, the Union Bank of Canada, agricultural machinery, branding cattle, houses, Allison's Store, the Lynch Brothers Livery, and the railroad.

The fonds consists of posters, postcards, a postage stamp and stickers documenting the Dutch Olympic speed skating team and the Koninklijke Nederlansche Schatsenrijders Bond. Two of the postcards are autographed by triple gold medal winner Yvonne van Gennip.

The collection consists of a copy photograph and negative featuring cowboys from the Calgary Stampede circa 1926. The collection also includes a list identifying the individuals in the photograph. The photographer remains unidentified.
