The fonds consists of biographical information, diplomas, correspondence, publications, histories, minutes, and research materials of Alexander Johnston pertaining to his activities as a historian and heritage activist. Includes original and photocopied research materials pertaining to irrigation, agriculture, natural history, ranching, coal mining, ethnic and religious groups, local medical history, Fort Whoop-Up, as well as Lethbridge individuals, families, events, community organizations and buildings. Also includes oral history interviews with Lethbridge citizens.

The collection consists of essays written by Loft's students, including David Holmes-Smith and Lorraine Brand, for Loft's education courses at the University of Victoria concerning the history of education in B.C. and the history of Victoria's churches.

The fonds consists of interviews by Alice Trottier with Franco-Albertan pioneers, and with Julien LeBlanc, E.O. Druin, and Maurice Lavallée (ca. 12 hours of recordings), a photocopy of a map from 1888, eight photographs of Mgr. There is also some business correspondence dating from the first half of the twentieth century. A microfilm of the vital statistics records of the parish (baptisms, marriages and burials), dating from 1787-1961, is also included.
