Helen MacDonald collection : [1944, 1957, 1979-1980]

The collection consists of the diary of Lieutenant Colonel James Kenneth MacIsaac, D. A. P. C. (Deputy Assistant Principal Chaplain) for the First Canadian Army, who took over the post after Lieutenant Colonel M. Roy was made A. P. C. (Assistant Principal Chaplain). Father MacIsaac's portion of the diary begins in May 1944 and contains comments on attendance at confession and mass, meetings of the senior chaplains, and the general mood of the soldiers. The collection also contains newspaper clippings related to Father MacIsaac's golden anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood in 1979, notices of his death in 1980, a copy of his obituary, telegrams offering condolences on his death, and a copy of the eulogy which was read by Father Gary Killion at his funeral. There is also a copy of the development and budget canvass for Our Lady of Victory Memorial Church, Winnipeg, Manitoba, for March 1957.

The fonds contains Methodist, Presbyterian, and United Church records principally for the circuits of Bedeque, Richmond Bay East, and Freetown including the smaller communities contained within the changing circuits. These are comprised of baptism, marriage and burial records, lists of clergy, officials and communicants, official pastoral charges and individual church minutes, annual reports, financial records, and records of various church organizations. For the purposes of description these have been organized into the following series:

Series 2: Richmond Bay East United pastoral charge

Information given on this map includes a listing of the lots and original proprietors, number of acres per lot, names of settlements, islands, parishes, etc. Mrs. M. W. Weeks of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, was the collector of this item.

Alice C. Green collection

The collection consists of scrapbooks and other materials used by Alice C. Green to write her book "Footprints on the Sand of Time: A History of Alberton". Included in this collection are newspaper clippings, correspondence, notes, and transcribed information. There are also six land conveyances dating from 1873, 1892, 1911, and 1913. Most of the newspaper clippings and notes are related specifically to the community and people of Alberton. The nature of these articles vary but include announcements of birthdays, marriages, obituaries, community events, activities and other points of interest relating to Alberton. There are also many articles of general interest related to the history of PEI. The material is arranged roughly by subject within the collection. Some of the clippings in the scrapbooks date from the 1920s and 1930s but the majority of clippings and other materials in the collection are dated 1942-1979. Also included in the collection is the Dominion Census returns for Alberton, 1921.

This collection consists of military orders, nominal rolls, correspondence, and lectures pertaining to various military units including the Maritime Composite Regiment and the No. 26 Field Ambulance Unit. The collection is organized into the following series: Maritime Composite Regiment, Levi Camp; No. 26 Field Ambulance Unit; Charlottetown Camp Daily Orders; Military District No. 6 District Orders; Militia Orders, Headquarters, Ottawa; General Orders, Headquarters, Ottawa; and Military District No. 12 general orders.

This collection consists of two photographs, the first being of Doyles Cove in North Rustico, Prince Edward Island, ca. 1930 and the second of Captain Andrew Doyle. Doyles Cove is adjacent to the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Lot 24. According to Meacham's 1880 Atlas, Andrew Doyle owned 100 acres and a fishing stage there.

This collection includes 31 photographs of butter, starch and cheese factories; the Campbell and Morris families; school children; schools; churches; and wharves largely in the Kings County area. Also included in the collection are photographs of the Provincial Sanatorium and Queen's Square in Charlottetown, Dr. Roddy MacDonald's dispensary in St. Peter's, the Protestant Orphanage in Mt. Herbert and the P.E.I. section of the 2nd Heavy Battery of the Canadian Artillery, 1914-1915.

This collection consists of 38 images of individuals and groups of interrelated families in the Tryon area of Prince Edward Island. The principal families included are Morrell, Howatt, Warren, and Boulter although there are some miscellaneous images including those of Rev. Allaby and his wife. At least some of the photographs were taken by J.E. Morrell.

Charlottetown conference of Canadian premiers 1961 photograph

This collection consists of one photograph of the provincial premiers who participated in the 1961 Charlottetown Conference, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The delegates are pictured standing on the porch of Fanningbank, the residence of the Lieutenant-Governor of PEI. Provincial premiers pictured in the photograph are, from left to right: W. A. C. Bennett, British Columbia: E. C. Manning, Alberta; T. C. Douglas, Saskatchewan; Dufferin Roblin, Manitoba; Leslie Frost, Ontario; Jean Lesage, Quebec; Louis Robichaud, New Brunswick; R. L. Stanfield, Nova Scotia; W. R. Shaw, Prince Edward Island; Joseph Smallwood, Newfoundland.

Charlottetown was the site of the second annual premiers' conference held 14 and 15 August 1961. The first annual meeting of the Canadian premiers was held in Quebec City in 1960 at the suggestion of then Quebec premier, Jean Lesage. The meeting delegates were officially welcomed to Prince Edward Island by Charlottetown mayor, Walthen A. Gaudet, at a reception held at the Charlottetown Hotel. The meetings were chaired by Premier Frost of Ontario and co-chaired by Prince Edward Island Premier Walter Shaw. Meetings were held at Province House and topics discussed included: the coordination of provincial sales tax collection, disaster aid, forest fire protection, agricultural and uniform traffic legislation research, portable pensions, the creation of a council of provincial premiers, the proposed building to commemorate the centennial of Confederation, education, Lord's Day Act, off-shore mineral rights, and financial matters.
