Australian Imperial Force, Department of Repatriation and Demobilisation fonds

Fonds consists of a document entitled "The History of the Department of Repatriation and Demobilisation from November 1918 to September 1919". Issued by the Department of Repatriation and Demobilisation of the Australian Imperial Force, this history was created in an effort to place on permanent record an outline narrative of the activities of the Department during the ten months of its existence as a separate organization. The document will disclose in more detail the nature of the methods employed to carry out the Department's policies with regard to non-military employment, movements and quartering, administration, ordnance, aviation, mechanical transport, liaisons and demobilisation in Egypt.

Fonds consists of an abbreviated transcript of a taped interview with Dr. Farmer undertaken some time before March 1991. It concludes a biographical sketch and Dr. Farmer's experience as a medical practitioner with the RCAF during 1942-1945. There is general coverage of contemporary medical practices, the evolution of the medical system in the Canadian military in the later part of the war, and military policy as it is related to the medical services. Special attention is given to plastic surgery, especially the treatment of severe burns. There are additional documents of biographical interest.

Bendix Aviation Corporation fonds

Fonds consists of service bulletins, addendums, and manuals regarding aviation instruments. Files one and two contain the "Bendix Aviation Corporation (Eclipse Pioneer Division) Instrument Overhaul Catalog, Vol. 3." This catalogue regards overhaul instructions on: autosyns, gyro flight instruments, rate of climb indicators, compasses, and flight plan control. File three contains an "Instrument Parts Catalogue," which lists quantities of the service parts and service assembly drawings for various Pioneer products. File four contains the "Instrument Overhaul Catalogue, Vol. 1," and includes similar topics to those in Files one and two. It includes large portions of "Catalog L" but also instructions regarding parts from engines, electrical parts, and generator parts. Files five through eight are loose bulletins, service bulletins and addendums regarding flight instruments, magnesyns, oxygen regulators, and the autopilot feature.

Betty Marwood collection

Collection consists of Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Second World War publications. They include base newsletters (magazines) from No. 9 Bombing and Gunnery School (Mont Joli), No. 6 Repair Depot (Trenton), and RCAF Station Rockcliffe, as well as the magazine “Wings Log of the RCAF,” published in Ottawa. There are eleven issues of the Rockcliffe “Crosswinds”, dating from January to December 1944. The Crosswinds is very light in tone, mixing news coverage of the base with comics and poetry. There are five issues of the Mont Joli “Target”, dating from December 1943 to the unit’s closing in March 1945. The Target reported on base activities with an explanatory tone, although it is still clearly intended for entertainment. There are five issues of Ottawa’s “Wings: Log of the RCAF”, daring from October 1943 to October 1944. There is one issue of Number Six Repair Depot’s newsletter“The Sixardee”, dated 2 March 1942. All publications contain many photographs of life on base.

Bill McAndrew fonds

Fonds consists mainly of documents gathered by Bill McAndrew for the writing of the Official History of Canadian Peacekeeping Operations, a project that was later cancelled. These include interviews with Major-General Mackenzie and others, Daily Reports from the Regional Centre Sarajevo to Zagreb, and miscellaneous material pertaining to Iran-Iraq peacekeeping operations, India-Pakistan peacekeeping operations and peacekeeping operations in Yugoslavia. An essay about the Allied conferences held in Quebec during the Second World War is also included.

B.M. Jaques fonds
