Fonds consists of papers covering McNaughton?s years as a student and instructor at McGill, his army work during the first years of World War II, and his involvement in Canadian-American relations in the early 1960's. Materials from his McGill years include student lecture notes on electrical measurements (1907) and mechanics (1908-1909), a copy of his M.Sc. thesis on the dielectric strength of air (1912), and two talks given to the McGill Electrical Club on high voltage (1912) and on air as an insulator (1913). Six files of notes, drafts, charts and some correspondence document McNaughton's publications and inventions in the field of electrical insulation and transformers between 1912 and 1914. Apart from C.O.T.C. lectures in artillery (1913), most of McNaughton's military papers date from 1939 to 1943. They consist entirely of typescript, printed reports and manuals by McNaughton on artillery and ballistics. Canadian-American relations are the subject of McNaughton's address to the Royal Canadian Institute on the St. Lawrence Seaway (1961). Also found in the fonds is a reprint of his article in the International Journal (1962-1963) on the proposed Columbia River Treaty. The fonds contains source material on urban development of the city of Sherbrooke and on flooding in the area during the latter part of the 19th century and the early 20th century. It consists of eleven individuals' photographs and an album containing 25 photos. The contents of the album include seven photographs taken in Cape Breton and at the Chicago World's Fair. Three of the album's photos were taken by George Johnston and one by William Burton Finley, both turn-of-the-century Sherbrooke photographers. In the collection as a whole are found views of the Magog and Saint Francis rivers; Dufferin, Lansdowne, and Fairmount streets; bridges; a power station; factories such as the Paton and Jenckes; University of Bishop's College; panoramas of Sherbrooke; an aerial view of Sherbrooke; and flooding in downtown Sherbrooke.

It also contains material on Edwin Bean, an ancestor of Gordon Lebaron who farmed in Hereford in the 19th century. The fonds consists of files on the architecture of various buildings (houses, schools, churches, mills) and material related to various local subjects. The documentary materials include research notes, press clippings, photographs, and ledgers. The fonds is comprised of the following series: Manuscript Notes on Architecture ([197-?]), Architectural Files (1905-[197-?]), Universalist Church ([1933?]-1989), Stanstead ([1966?]-[197-?]), Diary and Account Books of Edwin Bean (1885-1897), and Miscellaneous Documents (1892-[1976?]). The last of these contains photographic prints (from a series called 'Bird's Eye Views') of Beebe, Coaticook, Lennoxville, Sherbrooke, and Waterloo in the 19th century.
