This fonds documents the professional career and personal activities of Raymond P. Gorham. It includes correspondence, biographical information, education memorabilia, photographs, maps, plans, pamphlets, and materials pertaining to the Cathedral Men's Club, the Natural History Society of New Brunswick, and the Canadian Society of Technical Agriculturalists.

The fonds also includes research materials, articles, essays, and papers on a variety of subjects -- entomology, science, Maritime pre-history, local history (University of New Brunswick, city of Fredericton, parish of Kingston, Kincardine settlement), ecclesiastical history (Anglican Church), and agricultural history. Gorham also compiled genealogical information on the Gorham, Allen, Fowler, Francis, Giles, Hoyt, Ingraham, Kierstead, Lyman, Lyon, Merritt, Murray, Paddock, Perkins, Perley, Prince, Raymond, and Paul families.

Lastly, the fonds contains a typescript copy of "The development of agricultural organization in Upper and Lower Canada during the period before Confederation," written by R. P. Gorham and dated May 1933.

The maps and plans have been transferred to the Map Section. The photographs are located in P118.

E. Tappan Adney

This fonds contains largely original material documenting E. Tappan Adney's long involvement in the affairs of native people in New Brunswick, particularly the Maliseet. It includes information about treaty rights, New Brunswick court cases involving native rights, the historical development of reserves, and the 1947 review of the Indian Act.

This fonds contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, briefs, submissions, notes, and copies of published articles, treaties, speeches, proclamations, and "deeds". It also includes several photos, prints, sketches, and watercolours. Some materials are typescripts.

There is also a microfilmed copy of Adney's diary covering his first trip to New Brunswick (30 June 1887 to 28 February 1889) as well as his diary covering his second trip to New Brunswick and first trip to Nova Scotia (July to November 1890).

David Aberle fonds

The fonds consists of material related to David Aberle's research activities, academic work and writing. It includes the notebooks and journals of his fieldwork beginning in 1940-41 and continuing through 1991. These consist primarily of fieldnotes and other notes made during and after those trips. The vast majority of this material relates to Aberle's work with the Navajo in Arizona. The fonds also includes notes, articles, data and codes relating to Aberle's research into kinship and language among the Navajo, Mongols and Athapaskans, and extensive research into Navajo cultural and economy. The fonds also includes correspondence on a variety of academic subjects, Aberle's teaching materials from UBC's Department of Anthropology and Sociology, his work, including a number of reports written as part of, the Navajo-Hopi land dispute. Finally, the fonds includes the research for and manuscripts of a number of Aberle's essays and articles, as well as chapters and appendixes of his books.
