The fonds consists of monographs, scientific articles, newspaper clippings, letters, slides, photographic prints, moving images, maps and other documents. The records are arranged in 3 series, reflecting Ellis's research and teaching interests: Environmental assessments, 1969-1997; Underwater Photography of salmon, 1957-1963; Arctic Research 1952-1967.

The fonds consists of 610 letters written by E.J. Hughes to Max Stern discussing his artwork, plans for paintings and sketching trips, and prices received for many pieces. Also included are Hughes' descriptions of selected pieces, 1971-1989; and photographs of selected sites and finished works. The letters document the role of the gallery as sole agent of Hughes' work, and Hughes' artistic development.

The fonds documents Huneck's research relating to her involvement in government sponsored land-management decisions. The files reflect the organization and mandate of the various committees; and include minutes, reports, correspondence, press releases, clippings, and submissions from public and NGO groups. The fonds consists of the following series: Carmanah Community Committee (CCC); Carmanah Valley Forest Management Advisory Committee (CVFMAC); Forest Land Use Liaison Committee of British Columbia; Integrated Wildlife Intensive Forestry Research Program (IWIFR); Tahsis/Kwois follow-up Committee; Tsitika Follow-up Committee; and reference publication and reports. Reference material is arranged in alphabetical order by title. There is also reference material including publications and reports.

The fonds consists postcards written to Etholine from friends, featuring scenes from Victoria. Postcards include: Bridge at the Gorge, Victoria B.C.; C.P.R. The archival fonds consists of the following series: Direct Action-related clippings, correspondence, ephemera and notes; legal correspondence; pre- and post-parole correspondence, ephemera, notes and writings by others; correspondence received during incarceration; prison records (supplied to Hansen under an Access to Information request); Direct Action chapter drafts and related materials; and RCMP surveillance transcripts (closed until 2072).

Subject matter of the mixed clippings and correspondence series includes: anti-nuclear/anti-cruise missile activism, court proceedings, Elizabeth Fry Society, environmental issues, indigenous peoples issues, international activism, pornography, anti-pornography/anti-snuff films, prison-industrial complex, sexual assault, Red Hot Video, the Vancouver Five trial matters and sentencing, women’s rights.

Correspondence received during incarceration series includes: correspondence from Brent Taylor, Janice Bear Neudorf, and various supporters and publishers; series also includes 1 box of previous sealed letters from other members of the Vancouver Five, primarily Brent Taylor.

The collection consists of monthly time book for Estevan Point Lighthouse (1907) and Race Rocks Lighthouse (1909-1910), listing names of workers and hours by month.
