This fonds contains the records created by the organizations and clergy of the Diocese of Fredericton - including the Bishops, the Diocesan Synod and its predecessor, the Diocesan Church Society, the Deaneries, the Cathedral and the Parishes. However, it is the latter, the Parishes, which have generated the bulk of the records contained herein. Records produced by the Parishes include the Parish Registers (of Baptisms, Marriages, Burials and Confirmations), records of the Corporation (Vestry), statistical Registers of Services (now called Vestry Books), correspondence and financial records, land deeds and consecration and other legal records, parish histories, photographs etc. Any Parish's records may include some or all of the above and more.

Arthur Fenwick Van Wart and George Clowes Van Wart

This fonds consists mainly of the records of Dr. Arthur Van Wart, however, one series of appointment and charge books continues from 1890 when George Clowes began his practice as a doctor, and runs until 1967 when Arthur Van Wart retired.

Other papers include: ledgers of account, 1924-1967; correspondence, 1890-1973, (contains a few letters of George Van Wart); Arthur Van Wart's high school and university notebooks, 1910- ca. 1921; financial records; and records of medical and obstetrical cases, 1920-1966. Twelve family photographs and a painting of Fredericton are also included.

"Beginners please; my life in amateur theatre"; by Bert Williams

This is a photocopy of a bound volume of Bert William's "Beginners Please My Life in Amateur Theatre". The work discusses his early life, including growing up in a working-class neighbourhood of Bolton, Lancashire, England; attending school; and working at various occupations while a young boy -- in a factory, in a cotton mill, and for several cinemas. He also comments on his early years in amateur theatre, the Workers' Educational Society, the First World War (Great War), the Second World War, and his work in adult theatre, both in England and in Canada, as a director, actor, and stage hand . The volume also includes photocopies of newspaper clippings, correspondence, and theatre programmes.

Charles Moffitt

This fonds contains Charles Moffitt's original diaries covering the period,1854-1902. The series, however, is incomplete. Volumes are missing for the years: 1879-1881, 1883-1884, 1888-1889, and 1891-1892. Photocopies of the diaries are also available and a transcription is being completed.

Committee for the Exhibition of the Coronation Robes and Regalia

The fonds contains minutes of committee meetings, incoming and outgoing correspondence relating to the organization of the exhibition, financial statements, newspaper clippings, information on the exhibited items, and a brochure entitled, "Most Excellent Majesty -- the Crown from First Beginnings to its Place in the Modern World."

This fonds consists of family correspondence, diaries and land records. It includes family correspondence, 1784-1933: the journals of N. Hubbard DeVeber, 1850-1856 and A.W. DeVeber, 1884-1885 and land records from Gagetown, Petersville and other parishes. The treasurer's account book of St. Paul's Church Sunday school, 1888-1892 and records about the estate of Leveritt H. DeVeber, 1880-1895 are also included.

E. Allison MacKay fonds

This fonds consists primarily of the professional business records of barrister, solicitor and civil servant, E. Allison MacKay of Fredericton, New Brunswick. It consists of business correspondence, legal documents, receipts, memoranda, and statements of account. Much of his legal work related to property transactions, the settling of estates (probate), debts, bankruptcy, immigration, and civil suits. A Presbyterian, he accepted several legal cases involving the Presbyterian Church of Canada, notably, Ferguson et al v. McLean et al, a dispute arising in the congregation of St. James Presbyterian Church at Newcastle, N.B. over union with the United Church of Canada.

The fonds also includes correspondence, circulars, minutes of meeting, and notes relating to MacKay's work as secretary of the executive committee of the Children's Aid Society, chaired by W. J. West, that facilitated the placement of evacuated British children in the homes of York and Sunbury County residents during World War Two.

Also included are a few pieces of personal correspondence, as well as documents, correspondence and other material pertaining to his work with, or membership, in the Independent Order of Foresters, the Knights of Pythias, and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
