Donald Bates fonds

The fonds consists of one tape recording made when Johnnie Johns set up a tape recorder (supplied by D. H. Bates) at a Whitehorse party in the early 1940s, and an unpublished manuscript by Donald Bates and Lewis Mills, entitled "One diary of grizzly hunt 'Ursus Horribilus', Yukon Territory - Canada, May 27 to June 10, 1950." The manuscript describes the two men's hunting trip in the Yukon with guide, Johnnie Johns.

The fonds consists of photographs from the Johns family album. The majority of the photographs were taken in the Carcross, Yukon area during the 1920s and include images of Johnnie and his late wife, Gladys, their daughter Ada, hunting scenes, the Chooutla school, Carcross church, and family and friends including Sarah Roberts Cume, Isabelle and Alfred Ellis, Alice Edwards, Albert and Darryl Beattie, and Johnny and Mabel Baker.
