Ray Menard Alaska Highway collection

The fonds consists of 92 photographs taken during the time Ray Menard worked as a mechanic and machinist on the construcion of the Alaska Highway between 1942-1943. The photographs include base camps, equipment and storage, winter road construction, summer construction, wrecks and spills, bridge work, and the Dawson Creek explosion. Included with the collection is a typed notation of photographs which have been identified, a newspaper article describing the Dawson Creek explosion, and notes from an interview conducted by Ray's daughter, Linda White.

These photographs were donated by various donors to South Peace Regional Archives after it was established in 2000, and are not associated with a fonds. Photographs range in date from [1880] to 2003 and cover a range of subjects.

The fonds consists of autobiographical stories from 18 World War II brides who came to the Peace Country after meeting their Canadian husbands in Britain and Europe during the War. The women interviewed were Grace Thomson, Violet Dryer, Margaret Weaver, Wilhelmina Johnston, Aleyda Campbell, Margaret Krzyczkowski, Gretha Gerow, Jean Conrad Drysdale, Margaret LeCerf, Marjorie Pettit, Audrey Cook, Betty Eskdale, Grace Nellis, Hilary Lightfoot, Daphne Derocher, Mary Tangen, Cathy Golding and Sheila Peterson.
