Halifax Fire Department ledgers

Subseries consists of ledgers of the City of Halifax Fire Department, including companies records, records of fires, a roll of members, and a daily log. The companies records include the date, time, address of fire, number of ladders raised and the gallons of chemicals used. The records of fires include the date, time, address of fire, name of owner and the number of occupants in the dwelling, the type of occupants (e.g. tenants or owners), the cause of fire, the cost of damage and type of building and roof construction (wood, shingle, etc.). The daily log contains lists of staff on duty, procedures, visits, and training at the fire station. The roll of members includes employee names, salaries, the fire station and house employees belonged to, as well as the dates of hiring and retirement/resignation.

Dartmouth (N.S.) Committee of the Whole minutes

The Chairman at Council Meetings could move that the Council go into Committee of the Whole to discuss Committee and Commission reports. Each item in reports were then open for discussion and when all items were dealt with, the Chairman could move the adoption of the report with amendments, if there were any. Committee of the Whole meetings were recorded as separate meetings. They are not indexed and are arranged chronologically.

Dartmouth (N.S.). City Clerk's By-law files

Subseries consists of a selection of by-law files maintained by the City Clerk to manage the approval and amendment of by-laws. Files contain copies of the by-law, staff reports, public notices, minutes of public information sessions,copies of relevant Council minutes, correspondence with municipal and provincial solicitors, and tracking records. Only those files containing more than administrative records of the passing of by-laws were selected for archival retention. There is a selection of files for by-laws C-418 to C-743, and Subdivision and Street Regulations.

Dartmouth event photographs

Subseries consists of photographs of Dartmouth City Council and staff, as well as special Dartmouth events, including the 1959 Royal Visit, the Alderney Gate sod turning ceremony, and visits of foreign investors.

Dartmouth (N.S.). Registers of Execution [for Debt Collection]

Subseries consists of registers of executions issued by the Municipal Court. The Municipal Court issued executions authorizing Dartmouth Police to collect outstanding debts or arrest debtors who could not pay. Registers include the following information: number and date of the judgement authorizing the execution order, the names of the plaintiff and defendant, the amount of the debt, any costs associated with the collection of it, the name of the person to whom the execution was delivered and how it was returned (i.e. if the debt was successfully collected, or the person arrested), and any remarks.

Dartmouth (N.S.). Police Department photographs and scrapbook

Subseries consists of photographs from the Dartmouth Police Department, including a photograph of a police speed boat cruiser, a photograph of the communications room at the Wentworth Street police station in the 1970s, a picture of the cornerstone laid in 1994 outside police station doors to commemorate the 19th anniversary of Corporal Eric Spicer's death in the line of duty, and 6 photographs from the Pleasant Street Safety Survey in 1970. 2 of which were taken at the corner of Pleasant Street and Belmont Avenue near the railway overpass, 1 of which was taken near the oil refinery tanks and the last 3 were taken at unknown locations.
Also includes a scrapbook of the 1984 Papal Visit to Dartmouth.
