Account papers, forms, and notices

Overseers of the Poor account records including returns; reports; Poor Farm/County Home admission applications; ledgers; receipts; and a limited amount of correspondence. Most materials in this sub-series were directly created and/or used by the Overseers themselves. Account papers contain information about the number of paupers in each district; personal information about them such as age, residence, nationality, marital status, religion, and age; where and how individuals were cared for; and the costs related to their care. <p> The sub-series also consists of bonds of the Overseers, blank forms, and notices [194-?] used for settlement declaration and family allowance, as well as to provide welfare information to grocers, applicants, and officers.

Acquisition of Property and Deeds case files

Subseries consists of case files documenting the acquisition of property by the City of Halifax. Files were created by the City Clerk's Office and usually include the original signed deed and information about the purchase and title registration.

Acts of the Nova Scotia Legislature Related to Dartmouth

Subseries consists of two volumes of legislation relevant to the early operation of the Town of Dartmouth.
The first is bound volume of provincial legislation relevant to the Town of Dartmouth or any NS municipality, and the town's by-laws and ordinances. This volume was maintained by the Town Clerk and so has markings and additions as legislation was amended. <p> Among the contents are: <br>An Act to Incorporate the Town of Dartmouth - 1873 and 1886<br> Police Regulations - 1882 and 1887. <br>the Annual Report of the Warden and Auditors of the Town of Dartmouth - 1886.
The second is a scrapbook with pages from the Nova Scotia statutes 1902-1920, pasted into it. The book contains acts governing the Town of Dartmouth, and has been annotated by the Town Clerk-Treasurer's Office to show amendments.

Administrative orders

Subseries consists of administrative orders, including different versions and amendments, as well as some related correspondence and minutes. See list of Administrative Orders attached below. <p> Administrative Orders were passed by Council to govern internal City functions, such as the functions of city departments (Recreation, Health, Planning, Development, interanl Audit, emergency Measures Organization, Halifax Transit Corporation, Fire and Police), and civic procedures such as legal claims, budgets, and hiring/firing. Ordinances, on the other hand governed public functions.

Aerial photographs

Subseries consists of aerial views of Halifax harbour, Dartmouth shoreline, construction sites, and various residential and industrial areas in Dartmouth.

Annual report of the librarian of the Dartmouth Public Library

Subseries consists of annual reports from the head librarian of the Dartmouth Public Library. The [1940?] edition is for the Dartmouth Reading Room, which became the Dartmouth Public Library. The reports include comments on the number of book acquisitions, library attendance, and challenges facing the library. Also, there are comments of appreciation to the library's supporting organizations and individuals.

Annual report on the Halifax area economy

Subseries consists of annually prepared reports on economic trends in the Halifax area. The reports were produced for City of Halifax Council by the Development and Planning Department. They include economic indicators such as construction, employment, trade, services, and commercial space.

Annual Reports

Subseries consists of annual reports of the Halifax Board of School Commissioners. The board was founded in 1866, so the reports catalogue the establishment, development and structure of the school board over the following 116 years. The reports contain information on new school buildings, lists of teaching staff and salaries, and tables explaining enrollment and expenses. Duplicate copies are retained when available.

Subseries consists of photographs documenting Bedford Fire Department activities and facilities. Includes a photograph of the Heffler Mill fire in Middle Sackville.
