Nova Scotia Dairy Commission fonds

Fonds consists principally of annual reporting or minutes of the Nova Scotia Dairy Commission and its predecessor or related organizations the Superintendent of Dairying, and the Dairy Division of the NS Department of Agriculture. Additionally there are newsletters of the Commission (almost complete 1980 to 2001, and addresses of the President of the Dairymen's Association of Nova Scotia to the organization's annual conventions between 1919 and 1940. Included are annual reports of the Dairy Superintendents WA McKay (1918 to 1926) and WJ BIrd (1929 to 1940), the Dairy Services Division (1946-1967),and the Nova Scotia Dairy Commission (1968 to 1984). Additionally there are various industry related reports, brief runs of committee minutes, and pamphlets that had been accumulated by the Commission on topics such as co-operative organizations or actions against margarine

Harris and Ruey Getson fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence between Harris and Ruey, where Harris writes of his daily activities, his wanting to be home, and what he would like mailed to him in the camp when he was a prisoner of war while Ruey was waiting for his return with their two children. There are also correspondence from the community and relatives to Ruey, offering support while Harris was a prisoner, and correspondence between Harris and the federal government regarding payment for the years spent as a prisoner of war. Fonds also consists of official war documents, the newsletter “The Prisoner of War” sent to families, identification cards, pamphlets and photographs of Harris and Ruey Getson which provide evidence of the effect of war on a married couple. There are two groups of records accumulated, one when Harris was a prisoner of war and another of liberation documents before and after he arrived back home to La Have, N.S.

MacCallum Grant fonds

Fonds consists of a personal diary kept by Grant from October 26, 1887 to December 25, 1927, with a separate name index created by his son John Grant. The diary contains brief hand-written entries in chronological order of MacCallum Grant’s career milestones and personal highlights: births and marriages of children and grandchildren; children’s illnesses, mishaps and schooling; pleasure trips, homes purchased, pets, deaths of family and friends, career appointments, awards, and meeting British royalty. Some pages have printed images of their homes or news clippings of family members pasted in. Inserted between the pages are more news clippings, photographs, a few letters, notes of a speech, a school report card for Harold and other bits of memorabilia.

John Stewart fonds

Fonds consists mainly of incoming and outgoing correspondence received or written by Dr. Stewart to his mother, brothers and sisters while he was at university in Scotland, during a trip to England in 1913, and while in France during World War I. Also includes manuscripts of articles he wrote and speeches he gave related to medicine, a file about Lord Lister, photographs of Dr. Stewart and family members, honours & awards, and a few documents related to his military service. There is also a file of correspondence written to and from other family members, including his father and sisters.

Includes correspondence of the Minister responsible for Acadian affairs (1997-2003), files and briefing notes on various issues, records related to Intergovernmental relations and funding agreements, some French Language Service reports as submitted under the French Language Services Act and general records relating to community consultations and concerns. Major issues or file topics include Federal Provincial Agreements on the promotion of official languages 1989-1997, bilingual road signage (1987-1995), French language court services (1997-2004), and French language school boards.

Fonds consists of one album of photos compiled by R.W. Cautley, in December 1934, as part of a <i>Report to the Commissioner of National Parks for Proposed National Parks in Nova Scotia</i>. Cautley's inspection of proposed sites for national parks was an influential factor in the creation of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park in 1936. <br> Photographs depict landscapes of various locations in Nova Scotia, including Yarmouth, Weymouth, Carleton River, and aerial photographs of Scot Bay, Cape Split, and Cape Blomidon. Also includes photographs of the landscapes along the former No. 4 Highway to Cape Breton Island, NS, the Bras d'Or Lakes, Louisbourg, Whycocomagh, Cheticamp River, and the Margaree River. <br>Also depicted are various landscapes along the Cabot Trail such as Mackenzie Valley, Pleasant Bay Intervale, Red River, Aspy River, Cape North, Dingwall Harbour, Ingonish, and Indian Brook. The album also includes portraits of H. F. Laurence, Department of Highways Engineer; J. Barrington, M.L.A.; and Richard W. Cautley, Dominion Land Surveyor, and one picture of a proposed bridge location over the Cheticamp River.

Fonds consists of textual records, graphic material, sound recordings, and moving images created and accumulated by Helen Creighton documenting her private life and professional career as folklorist and author. The fonds includes an extensive collection of folk songs and folk tales which Creighton actively acquired over a sixty year period, and which document the diverse ethnic groups and cultural traditions of Nova Scotia and also New Brunswick. Fonds consists of three series: Photographs depicting Creighton's life and career; Sound recordings and moving images made and accumulated by Creighton; and Correspondence and other material.
