Mrs. Harold Stewart collection

This collection consists of copy prints of 4 photographs of Margaret Furness MacLeod and a contact sheet of the negatives for items 1 to 3. Margaret Furness MacLeod, originally of Vernon Bridge, Prince Edward Island, was a poet, musician, and preserver of heritage. She was a founding member of the Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation. She died in Montreal, Quebec, in 1977.

This collection consists of two photocopies of the album pages and 42 copy prints from a photograph album belonging to Mrs. Lulu (Hooper) Deacon which was passed down through her family. The images are of portraits of members of the Strong, Hooper, Thomas, Moyse, Wright, Clark, and other families. The portrait subjects are identified as are most of the photographers. Some handwritten comments as to relationships and so on are included in the album. The majority of the original photographs were cartes-de-visit with a few tintypes most likely dating from the 1860s and 1870s. Eight photographs were missing from the album at the time of copying. The collection also includes a photocopy of the album pages.

Peter Magowan letter

This collection consists of a duplicate copy of a letter dated l5 April 1807 from Peter Magowan to John Stewart. The letter contains information on political activities on Prince Edward Island including the meeting of the assembly, the formation of the Society of Loyal Electors, the establishment of a Court of Quarter Sessions and proceedings before the Supreme Court including the irregular admission of lawyers.

Bruce Desbrisay Jones collection

The collection consists of eight cabinet cards, twenty-two cartes-de-visite, eleven tintypes, and two snapshots of the Stewart and DesBrisay families (of Prince Edward Island), and other related persons. Many are unidentified. Photographers include C. Lewis, G.P. Tanton, G.H. Cook Co., and Clark and Bowness.

W. Chester S. McLure family fonds

The collection consists of 2 photographs of Mrs. Lottie (Brehaut) McLure and one of Russell Brehaut. In one photograph Mrs. McLure is wearing a watch, a wedding gift from her husband, which is now in the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation collection as item HF89.26.1. The muff she is wearing in the second photograph is item HF89.26.9 in the same collection. Russell Brehaut is in the uniform of the 175th Regiment. The 175th Regiment watch owned by Mr. Brehaut in item HF89.26.9 of the PEI Museum & Heritage Foundation collection.

George Dunsford photograph collection : [ca. 1915]

The collection consists of two photographic prints made from the originals. One is a portrait of George Dunsford in his World War I uniform. The other is of an unidentified military group of W.W. I vintage. The only identified member of the group is Martin MacDonald of Rocky Point, front row, extreme left.

Northumberland Ferries photographs : [ca. 1950]

The collection consists of two photographs; one of the "Prince Nova", the first Northumberland Ferries vessel, at the ferry terminal wharf, the other of the Board of Directors of Northumberland Ferries Ltd.

Northumberland Ferries Ltd. was incorporated to operate in Prince Edward Island in 1939 having already obtained corporate status in Nova Scotia. It has operated the ferry transportation from Wood Islands to Caribou N.S. from that time until the present day. The "Prince Nova" was the first vessel to ply the Strait for Northumberland Ferries. Built in 1909, the passenger steamer was named "Waubic" until she suffered serious damage in a fire in 1938 and had to be rebuilt. From then until her arrival in P.E.I. in 1941, she was known as the "Erie Isle". From June of 1941 until the end of the 1957 season she was in service on the Wood Islands Caribou crossing and known as the "Prince Nova". She burned and was abandoned in July of 1959.

Sir Louis Henry Davies photograph

This collection consists of a photograph of Louis Henry Davies (1845-1924) and some family members was taken at "Curdridge," Hampshire, England, probably in 1919 when Sir Louis Henry Davies was in Europe for the Versailles Conference. Identified people in the photograph include: Sir Louis Henry Davies, Lady Davies, Mrs. Frances Davies (nee Ramsbotham), Reverend Herwald Davies, Miss Winifred Davies, Mrs. Muriel Tew (nee Davies), Mrs Joyce Jeffery (nee Davies).

Sir Louis Henry Davies was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, 4 May 1845. He received his education at the Central Academy in Charlottetown, and at the Inner Temple in London. He was admitted to the bar in 1867 and quickly gained recognition in that field. In 1876, he was elected to the P.E.I. Legislature. He served as Premier of the Province between 1876 and 1879. One of his outstanding achievements while in office was the legislation which established public schools in Prince Edward Island.

In 1882, Davies entered federal politics as a representative of Queens County. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1901, and in 1918, became Chief Justice of Canada. He died and was buried in Ottawa 1 May 1924.

Gary Carroll collection

The collection consists of papers and photographs gathered by Gary Carroll. The collection includes correspondence relating to his research on Governor Walter Patterson, information regarding the 1965 Federal-Provincial Youth Travel Program to Manitoba, papers and images belonging to his father, Linus J. Carroll, an account book for Hemphill and Carroll furniture upholstering and refinishing (1945-1948), financial statements for Archer and MacDonald Limited (1967), and images of various buildings, individuals, and groups. Many of the images have been identified and dated by the donor.

This collection consists of material gathered by Elizabeth Cran and Gary Webster while working on the history of the co-operative movement on PEI. There is also one notebook belonging to Elizabeth Cran containing research notes. The collection consists of four series arranged by type of record.
