Charles Hogben fonds

The fonds consists of one cassette tape and a transcript of an interview of Charles Hogben's experiences in Alaska and the Yukon in 1898-1900. The interview was conducted by his daughter, Vera (Hogben) Kelly in 1965. Charles talks about panning for gold, staking a claim on Ogilvie Creek, the supplies needed for the trek over the Chilkoot Pass, the trip over the pass and down the Yukon River. He also talks about being involved in a business freighting miners' supplies from Circle City to Kelly Creek, Alaska.

The fonds consists of a copy of Charles Mosier's diary describing the 1898 journey over the Chilkoot Pass through the Whitehorse Rapids to Dawson City, Yukon; of placer mining through the winter of 1898-99 on Sulphur, Quartz and Meadow creeks; and of the journey home to New York State in June, 1899. An index of people, places, rivers, creeks, trails and boats is also included.

The collection consists of copies of two personal narratives by Charles Weddleton about his journey from Yarmouth to the Klondike in the Yukon, 1897-1898. The original journal was written in 1936.

The fonds consists of photographs of the Atlin, B.C. area and its residents, including shots of school children, Atlin people visiting Ben-My-Chree and Gairns' shops, ca. 1900- ca. 1941. Also included is four typewritten pages written by Charlie Gairns in 1988, describing his family history, and a sound recording of Mr. Gairns (ca. 1989).

Charlie Townsend fonds

The fonds consists of original photographs and a tape recording about Charlie Townsend's work on the dredges and his leisure activities in Dawson City, Yukon ca. 1910-1932. Topics discussed in the interview with Charlie Townsend, conducted by Diane Chisholm on June 9, 1997, were Charlie's photographs of aviation, Solomon Albert (prospector in the White River area), scenes of Dawson City, the Klondike River bridge collapsing, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) hockey team, the Marion electric shovel owned by North Fork Power Co., Hunker Summit Road House and the horse teams. Also discussed was Charlie's work on the dredges, the South Fork of the Klondike River ditch and the shovels used to excavate it, and camp life. The photographs taken by Charlie also include images of dog sled teams, sternwheelers, and hydraulic mining.

Chief Zzeh Gittlit School fonds

The fonds consists of copies of photographs which primarily depict school children at Old Crow and images of a muskrat hunting expedition. Photographs of the school children include images of school activities and of children in and around the school and in the community. Some of the children are identified and listed in the inventory. Photographs from the muskrat hunting trip include images of the camp, netting muskrat out of the water, skinning and stretching the pelts on frames.

Chris and Grace Bartsch fonds

The fonds consists of a typewritten photocopy transcription of Grace Bartsch's 77 page diary describing her first trip to the Klondike in 1900; photographs of this and subsequent expeditions; a photocopy of the Bartsch & Co. ledger for 1901; and photocopies of extracts from the company's cash book of 1901 (82/149). Also included in the fonds are two original manuscripts written by Chris Bartsch. The first is handwritten and details the river journey Mr. Bartsch took from Skagway to Dawson City, Yukon in 1897-1898 with a herd of cattle and includes the story of Soapy Smith's demise. The second manuscript is typed and titled "Our Trip Out Over the Ice", dated Dec. 10th, 1900. It tells of a winter sled trip from Dawson City to Skagway, including a listing of roadhouses between Dawson City and Whitehorse. It also chronicles the next spring's return trip with 100 head of cattle and 500 sheep and the establishment of the Red Front slaughterhouse. The date the manuscripts (99/93R) were written is unknown.

Christopher Everest Webb fonds

The fonds consists of a photographic album with original images taken by Webb as he travelled through the Yukon in 1915. Subjects include the Taku Glacier, a concentrator at Juneau, Miles Canyon and Whitehorse Rapids, Lake Laberge, Hootalinqua, Teslin Post, Tantalus Coal Mine, Fort Selkirk, Mayo, Fraser Falls, Chisana, sternwheelers, Dawson City, dredges and mining, Joe Boyle, Seventymile Ditch, Forty Mile, an Inuit encampment, St. Michael, a fish camp, fox farm, and people and wildlife.

City of Dawson fonds

The fonds consists of the administrative and operational records of the City of Dawson from its initial incorporation in 1902, until 1981. The majority of the records are from the present administrative period, from 1950-1980. The tax rolls and assessments, ordinances and By-laws and some financial records date back to the first and subsequent administrations, and despite frequent upheavals in the City's administration, are fairly complete. The records are described in five series, according to function. Series 1: Council records, 1901-1981. Series 2: Financial records, 1902-1980. Series 3: Correspondence and subject files, 1902-1975. Series 4: Correspondence and operations records, 1976-1979. Series 5: Media list, includes maps, plans and photographs.
