Eastern Shore Archives cemetery transcriptions collection

Collection consists of copies of transcriptions of headstone inscriptions from various cemeteries across the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. Records were created between about 1972 and about 2002. The transcriptions are handwritten, and most were created by genealogist Terrance Punch. Fonds also includes copies of cemetery records.

Collection consists of copies and transcriptions of records of various churches and parishes which were located on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia or which were used by Eastern Shore residents. Fonds contains records of baptisms, marriages, burials and confirmations along with other church records, ranging from 1752 to 1982. Some records are on microfilm or copied from microfilm, while others are typed or handwritten transcriptions of records. Records were created between about 1972 and about 2002.

Eastern Shore Archives school returns collection

Collection consists of copies of half-yearly returns of schools along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. The returns date from 1828 to 1839 and give information about the teacher and students of the school, as well as giving a small amount of information about fee payment and the schools general finances. Records were created between about 1972 and about 2002.

Eastern Shore Archives school attendance registers collection

Collection consists of daily attendance registers from various schools along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, accumulated by the Easter Shore Archives. Records were created between 1891 and 1987, and in about 2003. Registers date from 1891 to 1987, and are usually identified by school name; section number; district or municipality; county; and school year. Some schools have a more complete range of records than others. Information recorded in the registers includes full name of student, date of birth, record of vaccination and inoculations, and name and address of parent or guardian. A variety of additional annual statistics are also included. Most of the registers are arranged by school name, and chronologically within each school. Collection also includes a copy of a 1920-1921 register from the Sheet Harbour Road school, produced around 2003.

The collection consists of textual records, historical notes, newspaper clippings, and research notes. Included in the collection are miscellaneous records acquired from sources including the O'Reilly and Trutch families, Helmcken family, and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. The O'Reilly and Trutch records consist of family correspondence and records relating to Peter O'Reilly's career, particularly his work as the Commissioner of the Indian Reserve Commission. The Helmcken records include correspondence both made and received by John Sebastian Helmcken and James Douglas Helmcken, records relating to J.S. Helmcken's position in the colonial and provincial governments, and estate records. The Supreme Court records include correspondence of Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie, trial records, affidavits, bankruptcy files, estate files and other miscellaneous records. There are also miscellaneous records relating to a number of other notable personalities including the Mesher and Pauline families, J.A. McTavish, J.W. Bushby, W.R. Higgins, David McKean, William Manson, and Josephine Crease. Also includes records of organizations including the Victoria Jockey Club. Research notes consist of information relating to a paper presented by Pearce at the British Columbia Historical Society on John Sebastian Helmcken.
