Attorney General fonds

This fonds consists of records of the Attorney General and later of the Department of Justice and Attorney General and spans the years 1851 to 1974. Included in the fonds are legal documents such as performance bonds, preliminary hearings of cases of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island and inquests. The fonds includes correspondence and subject files of the Attorneys General and the Department of Justice and Attorney General which consist of correspondence with the general public, other government departments, other provinces and institions and organizations, circulars, reports of investigations, conference papers, annual reports, statistical returns and some photographs and plans. Also included are statements and returns of arrests by the Prohibition Commission and some lists of prison inmates, preliminary hearings of court cases and notes and correspondence concerning these cases, and files of the P.E.I. Provincial Police force. The Attorney General fonds is divided into the following series: performance bonds, attorney general files, coroners' records, preliminary hearings, Prince Edward Island Provincial Police files, Prohibition Commission enforcement branch statements, Royal Canadian Mounted Police reports, correspondence and subject files, and criminal statistics.

Augustine Cove Women's Institute fonds

This fonds contains five minute books covering the dates 1948 to 1993. Along with meeting minutes, the Augustine Cove Women's Institute minute books also contain membership lists, lists of officers, and roll call as well as some financial records. Also included in the fonds are several issues of the "Institute News" from the 1970's and a souvenir booklet from the June 1983 Provincial Convention.

Austin A. Scales fonds

This fonds consists of a number of accounting records for Austin Scales' farming operations and his various other businesses, including Scales Hydro Electric Company Limited, Associated Shippers Incorporated, Island Foods Incorporated and Island Fertilizers Limited. There are twelve home accounting journals (1914-1937, 1940-1987) where transactions are recorded as they occur. There are also eleven home cash books (1919-1938, 1941-1989), recording all payments and receipts of business transactions. There are three home ledgers and one partial ledger (1914-1989), posting and classifying transactions. The fonds includes four books of potato car records (1926-1946) detailing to/from whom the load of potatoes was bought/sold. A journal, cash book and ledgers for Scales Hydro Electric Company Limited span 1937-1967. Island Fertilizers Limited shareholders / journals/ ledgers cover 1933 through 1941. There are annual statements for Associated Shippers Incorporated (1931-1944, 1946-1949), Island Fertilizers Limited (1945-1949) and Island Foods Incorporated (1943, 1947-1951). The fonds also includes a copy of the "Journal of the House of Assembly of Prince Edward Island" for 1845.

Ayrshire Field Day - Home of W. A. Moase & Son

The fonds consists of a photograph taken of 22 Prince Edward Island breeders who had been breeding Ayrshire cattle for 40 years or more. It was taken at the home of W. A. Moase & Son in Kensington on the occasion of an Ayrshire Field Day, 4 August 1962.

B. D. Higgs fonds

The fonds contains two letters, one signed and one not, from Wilfrid Laurier, Member of Parliament for Quebec East and later Prime Minister of Canada to B. D. Higgs, briefly expressing his views on the construction of a tunnel between Prince Edward Island and the main land. There are also covering letters to B. D. Higgs and to Louis Henry Davies, Member of Parliament for Queens, Prince Edward Island and later Premier of P.E.I. and Chief Justice of Canada. At the time both Laurier and Davies were campaigning for the 1891 election.

B. Frank Tinney collection

The collection contains an account book of the PEI Historical Society, a program of the death service for Queen Victoria held in the First Methodist Church in Charlottetown, a schedule of the visit of Governor- General and Lady Alexander to Charlottetown in 1946 as well as 6 post-cards. The latter are primarily of railway cuttings in the snow in 1905 but also contain one of the ferry "Northumberland" and one of Islanders enlisted in the artillery for World War I.

The Bank of Nova Scotia opened its first branch on Prince Edward Island on 19 June 1882 in a building purchased from the defunct Bank of Prince Edward Island located at the northeast corner of Great George and King Streets. In 1883 it amalgamated with the Union Bank of Prince Edward Island and removed to that institution's building on the southeast corner of Great George and Richmond Streets. It continued to conduct business at this site until 1921 when it moved into new premises at Grafton and University where it remains today. This fonds consists of textual documents and photographs relating to the history of Georgetown, Prince Edward Island and its principal industry of shipbuilding. The twelve photographs depict area ships, shipyards, and some individuals involved in the area's shipping industry. Two of the vessels included were built at Cardigan. All places and ships are clearly identified as are some of the people.

Beairsto family fonds

This fonds consists of records belonging to the Beairsto family of Malpeque, Prince Edward Island. The records include Benjamin Beairsto's magistrate book (1851-1869) and a North Shore House Hotel ledger (1889-1903), the back section of which was used as a diary by Ralph Beairsto, documenting farm life (1933-1938). A small notebook diary for October 1920 to January 1921 has also been attributed to Ralph Beairso. The fonds also contains a post-1888 photo of North Shore House Hotel and a newspaper article about the hotel (1972). Also, the fonds consists of a book that appears to have been used by at least three individuals as a diary, including a young woman attending college in Charlottetown, an unidentified individual (April 1912), and another individual (April to June 1913, 1938-1940). The handwriting for the 1913 and 1938-1940 entries matches that found in other diaries in the fonds which have been attributed by the donor to Ralph Beairsto. The book also includes loose papers listing names, household and farm item, and prices. The fonds also includes a ledger listing names of individuals hired and method of payment (1893-ca. 1935) and as well as accounts (1935-1949). Finally, there are two crayon portraits [1880-1899] of the second generation to own and operate North Shore House, Benjamin Beairsto and his wife, Ann MacNutt.
