Macnaghten family fonds

The fonds consists primarily of records relating to the estate of Sir Francis Macnaghten, and Beatrice's difficulties in liquidating his various investments, including that in the Calgary Brewing and Malting Company (1951-1953). The fonds also consists of a small amount of Beatrice's personal papers, including her summary of a pheasant shoot at Dundarave (1927), menus and food orders for events at Dundarave, her Canadian passport (1950s) and an address book.

This fonds consists of 5 record books kept by Robert B. Hillmer concerning his watchmaking and jewellery business. In the books, Mr. Hillmer recorded watch inventories (1899), as well as job numbers, client name, work requested and price. Item List: Watch Repair Book 1910 - 1913; Watch Repair Book 1924 - 1934; Watch Repair Book 1936 - 1954; Watch Repair Record book, 1913 - 1924; and Watch Repair Record book 1898-1910. The fonds also includes a Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Canada certificate appointing Robert Benjamin Hillmer to the office of Grand Superintendent of Huron District No. 6, February 28, 1918.

Bell and Kenny families genealogy

This collection consists primarily of materials collected by Edwin Wallace Bell during the course of his research for "Israel Kenny His Children and Their Families" as well as copies of his incoming and outgoing correspondence with the descendants of both Israel Kenny and his ancestors.

Along with the correspondence, the collection includes genealogical notes, pedigree charts, newspaper clippings, biographical sketches, and transcriptions or copies of late 18th, early 19th century, and 20th century documents. There are also maps of land grants and photographs of members of the Kenny, Kinney, Kennie, Kenney family. Some of the photographs have been moved to the Photographic Section.

In addition, the collection contains copies of articles on Carleton County history by Clark A. McBride, Cyrus Snow, and Gladys P. Kinney extracted from newspapers; an article by Francis R. Plourde on log drives; a history of Bristol, N.B.; and correspondence and notes received by E. W. Bell on the publication of the "History of 104th Regiment" and "Israel Kenny His Children and Their Families".

The material is arranged in the original order established by E. W. Bell, which is by the names of individuals with whom he exchanged correspondence.

Robert G. Freeman fonds

This fonds consists of four diaries (January 1938 - December 1944) and 143 photographs (1936-1955) created by or featuring Robert G. Freeman, known as Bert Freeman, from Teeswater, Bruce County, Ontario.

The majority of photographs appear to have been taken from 1939-1944 and many feature Bert as a Flight Officer in his military uniform.

The entries in his diaries reflect his attendance and activities at Westervelt College, London, news of friends, social events and recreational activities (including movies, skating, fishing, dancing at dance hall at Wonderland & Springbank Rds., London, and time with friends), church attendance, work at Empire Life, London, Ontario (until early April 1940), bookeeping and work for his father at the Superior Food Store in Teeswater, and flying lessons / night aviation courses in 1939. WWII is mentioned in some of his entries. After enlisting, his entries include notes about flying, training and social activities. Notes are also made concerning his hospital stay for Spinal Meningitis in 1943.

The graphic materials include 4 tintypes and 36 photographs (predominantly b&w; 15 x 20cm). There are 2 photograph albums; one contains photographs (b&w); the second includes photographs, postcards and newspaper clippings.

The fonds also includes 8 watercolours by Lottie P. Harris, which are signed LPH.
