Meadowcroft fonds

This fonds consists of material collected and created by Reg Appleyard, Doug Matheson, Rev. Harry Meadows, Matheson and Company, and the staff of Meadowcroft Seniors’ Residence through their function of running the Meadowcroft corporations and providing quality affordable housing in Edmonton between 1969 and 2010. It contains legal documents, correspondence, reports, committee minutes, pamphlets, photos, plans and audiovisual material.

An attempt has been made to preserve the original order of the material. The files themselves have been arranged into 5 sous-fonds and various series. The sous-fonds are as follows:

The fonds consists of materials created or collected by Peter Hawker. This fonds consists of a manuscript biography of Richard Secord; a copy of a proclamation "uniting the Provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; a copy of the 1918 <em>Globe and Mail</em> Winnipeg General Strike edition; and other souvenir newspaper editions. There are also maps showing: electric generating systems and stations, dated 1961-1962 and oil and gas fields in Western Canada, dated 1975. There are two books: <em>John Rowand</em> and <em>Fort Edmonton: Fur Trade Entrepot </em>[warehouse] and special edition anniversary postal envelopes transported by dogsled and York boat.

Parney Estate, and a scrapbook containing news clippings relating to world wars I and II, the royal family, Parney family, Jenny Morris, the "mother" of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry and the deaths of prominent persons, including Wilfred Grenfell, Thomas Alva Edison and Wilfrid Laurier.

MS-515: This fonds consists of programs and sheet music from the Light Opera of Edmonton. MS 515.1: This fonds consists of personal and family records of May Dornan. These records break down into four groups: scrapbooks, Catholic Church materials, miscellaneous materials, and Dennis Dornan materials. The scrapbooks consists of a photograph album of a production of "The Lass of Limerick Town"; two scrapbooks of miscellaneous materials including newspaper clippings on history, architecture and the catholic church in Edmonton, cards, notices, invitations and other ephemera; a scrapbook on family and church history; and finally a scrapbook on "The First Fifty Years" A Pictorial Review of the Origin of the Parish of St. Anthony of Padua and the Contributions made by the Pioneers, both for the Church and in the Community." Catholic Church materials consists of various publications on the church in Edmonton, including material on St. Anthony's, the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, the Catholic Women's League, St. Agnes, St. René / Our Lady of Assumption, and Edmonton Catholic Schools. The miscellaneous materials consist of Women's Aid Society of the Royal Alexandria Hospital Recipe Book, Celebration of Marriage between Doreen Gale and Wayne Bard, Obituary: A Story, "Canada's Constitution--A Proud Moment for Alberta," Theatre Programmes, and a Granite Curling Club Roster. This fonds also contains material from Dennis Dornan, including material from his time with the Edmonton Junior Chamber of Commerce.
