Francis Gaskin Wade genealogy

File contains research material compiled by Frances Wade as a result of a family genealogical research, consisting of Bulmer and Gaskin family genealogy charts and notes and pictures of members of the Bulmer family. In addition the material includes a coloured photocopy of a sampler worked by Sarah Ann Bulmer, 1855, depicting a house. Wade’s research material about early houses in Sackville and Dorchester, New Brunswick, collected as she attempted to identify the house, is also included.

City of Brandon Collection

The collection is made up of material accumulated by the City of Brandon and pertains primarily to the city's infrastructure. The majority of the collection consists of photographs. Also included are prints, one painting, and drawings. There are photographs of businesses, city streets, significant buildings, parks, sports teams, and important people. Significant buildings include hotels, stores, schools, the old City Hall, the fire hall, and the Court House. Important individuals in these photographs include mayors of Brandon, members of the British Royal family, and multiple Governor Generals of Canada. There are also photographs of groups such as the fire department, the police department, city councils, and other citizen organizations. Along with the photographs there is a disc containing digital copies for the pictures of Brandon's mayors. There are a number of framed documents included in this collection. These include certificates, proclamations, and awards of merit presented to the City of Brandon. Also found in this collection are two guest books from Manitoba's Centennial celebration, city plaques, and sketches for city planning. There is one commemorative dish held in a frame, picturing the old city hall and opera house. Each item in the collection in described in further detail at the individual level.

Scope and Content: The collection consists of material collected by Martin Kavanagh pertaining to the history of Manitoba. The majority of the textual documents are newspaper clippings from local newspapers. From where he obtained the photographs is unknown. The content of the fond pertains to the city of Brandon’s early history. The fond contains newspaper clippings about the city’s prominent members, clubs, events, schools, and businesses. It contains photographs of prominent building such as hotels, and other important businesses. The photographs document many areas of life in early Brandon including businesses, industry, agriculture, transportation, and education.

The collection contains textual documents and photographs. Books in the collection include a history book titled, "England's Story" and a biography of Joseph Royal, a former member of the Manitoba Legislature. Other publications in the collection are a Henderson's Winnipeg Street Directory from 1884 and a 1974 issue of the "Ukrainian Canadian Magazine." The collection also contains two photographs of the Bank of Hamilton in Brandon, Manitoba.

Materials in the fonds were created by A.E. McKenzie Co. Ltd. The fonds contains items pertaining to the seed business, including catalogues, price lists, advertisements, correspondence, recipes, and information booklets about gardening and farming. There are also four large map boards of different areas in Western Canada. Each item is described in detail at the individual level on the Daly House Museum Database.
