This collection consists of one photograph of Walter Shaw (1887-1981) at 20 years of age, ca. 1907.

Walter Russell Shaw was born in West River, Prince Edward Island, on 20 December 1887, the son of Alexander Crawford Shaw and Isobel Maynard. He received his education at St. Catherine's School, Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and the Agricultural College in Guelph, Ontario. On June 1, 1921, he married Margaret MacKenzie with whom he had two daughters and one son.

From 1914 to 1954 (with the exception of the years 1919 to 1922) W. R. Shaw was employed by the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture as district representative, livestock superintendent and Deputy Minister. The latter position he held for 20 years. He was named leader of the Progressive Conservative Party in September of 1957. At the age of 71, he fought the general election of 1959 carrying 22 out of a possible 30 seats, including his own in 1st Queens. He served as Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1959 to 1966. Personally undefeated in the election of 1966 which swept his party from power, he continued as leader of the opposition in the Legislative Assembly until 1972 when he retired from politics. Walter Shaw died on 28 May 1981 at the age of 93.

This collection consists of a listing of aerial photographs of PEI available locally, an article on forestry in PEI by Rev. Father Burke (1902), and two compilations of PEI legislation, one having to do with forestry and one with wildlife.

The collection consists of several volumes related to Scottish and Irish genealogy, one on the Catholic clergy on P.E.I., two medical certificates of Daniel E. Morris, and 18 photographs of individuals and groups related to theatre productions, catholic clergy, Morris family, theatre productions, etc.

The majority of the collection consists of items relating to Edward James Jarvis (1788-1833). After studying law in London, England, from 1813-1816, Jarvis became a lawyer, notary, office holder, judge, and politician in Prince Edward Island. The collection contains Jarvis' journal, documenting a trip to Paris in 1814, and the wig he wore while acting as Chief justice of P.E.I. Also included are two items of correspondence written while in Malta, to relatives in New Brunswick. The first letter was written by Edward and his first wife, Anna Maria (Boyd), to Munson Jarvis, Edward's father, in Saint John and the second by Ann Maria to her sister Mrs. Robert Hagen in Saint John.

The collection also contains the marriage license of James Bardin Palmer (1771-1833) and Millicent Jones, who were married by T. Desbrisay on the 22 December 1803. Palmer was a land agent, lawyer, office holder, and politician in PEI. He was the son of Joseph Palmer and Susanna Bardin of Dublin, Ireland.

This collection consists of 17 photographs which include the following subjects: ships and harbours, including the schooner "Ledee Adele", and the steamship "Bonavista"; the Bayview Hotel; groups of individuals; portraits; and a group assembled near an airplane prior to its flight to Truro, Nova Scotia in 1919.

This collection includes 12 photographs of the Prince Edward Island Railway, its trains and its addition of a third rail to accommodate the inter-change between narrow gauge and standard gauge tracks.

This collection consists of a microfilm copy of the diary of Violet Goldsmith dated 7 June 1900 to 15 March 1906. It contains accounts of daily activities in the Goldsmith household, Violet's teaching experiences, and her trip to England in May 1901. Also included are biographical notes on Rev. John Goldsmith and Anna Goldsmith as well as 8 post cards and photographs depicting Prince of Wales College, St. Paul's Church, and St. Peter's Cathedral.

This collection includes photographs of three original works of art of sailing vessels by an unknown artist. The first photograph depicts the 388 ton barque "Undine" which was built in Summerside in 1864 by John MacKinnon and was owned by James C. Pope of Summerside. In February 1868 it was sold at Liverpool, England. The remaining two photographs depict the brig "Hope" was also most likely built on Prince Edward Island with the intention of selling her in the United Kingdom market. Included in the collection are both black and white and colour negatives.

This collection consists of 19 photographs and 1 colour slide of ferries and ferry service provided by Northumberland Ferries Limited between eastern Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
