William B. Mills and Henrietta Green family fonds

The leather-bound album contains twenty cartes-de-visites (11 x 7 cm) and three cabinet cards (17 x 11 cm). The photographs are presumed to be of both the Mills and Green extended families. Five photos are from Pittsfield, Massachusetts where Frances Green and James Clark lived with their daughters Fanny, Amy, and Effie. Seven photos are from St. John's, Newfoundland where William's sister Lousa lived. Four photos are from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. None of the photographs were taken in PEI.

Bonnie Brae Inn guest register

The register is a 200-page lined journal used to record the names and addresses of the travellers who stayed at the Bonnie Brae Inn from April 20, 1950 to October 16, 1952. The last entry is followed by several blank pages, presumably indicating the date the establishment ceased to take in overnight guests. Eight pages at the back of the book were used to make various notes regarding bookings and payments.

The collection consists of various clippings and souvenirs including a 1941 graduation dinner program of the No. 7 Air Observers School in Manitoba, a 1993 pamphlet from a church in Scopwick, England where RCAF men are buried, and letters from Wanda Wyatt. The photographs are mainly of Miss Wyatt. A large photo shows the 1944 staff and instructors at the No. 1 G.R. School in Summerside.

The collection is comprised of textual materials about the Green family and its significance in Summerside history, a Salvation Army songbook and minute book (dated Summerside 1902-1914) which belonged to Mrs. James Green, and a 2001 letter written by Gorden Potten about the Green house on the western edge of Summerside. The photographs are of Kenneth, Benton W. and Ella Jean Green, and the Green house mentioned in the letter.

The collection consists mainly of special edition newspapers, including the Journal-Pioneer centennial issues for the province in 1964 and 1967, the town of Summerside in 1977, and the Summerside Journal in 1965. There are also supplements to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the RCAF Station in 1966 and the 40th anniversary of CJRW in 1988. An issue of The County Line Courier in 1990 is a special railway edition and another in 1991 is devoted to Celtic culture on the Island. There are two issues, Volume I, Nos. 3 & 5, of The Daily Journal published in 1896 by W.A. Brennan, owner of The Summerside Journal. Some newspaper clippings refer to the debate about Maritime Union in 1970 and the Summerside Waterfront Development Program in 1971. The collection contains an 1891 Young Ladies Journal, a 1923 guide to Prince Edward Island by publisher Ernest Heaton in Toronto, a 1927 map of the province, and a colour print of the ship "Charles E. Lefurgey." There is a 1950 article from the Montreal Standard about Summerside titled "Canada's Richest Town" and a 1986 article about the California periodical The Maple Leaf. A sizable portion of the material is related to the building of the Confederation Bridge and the earlier proposals for a link to the mainland.

The collection contains three files of photocopied pages. The first file is a copy of Owen Green's self-published 1997 booklet entitled "A Few Greens from Green's Shore: Israel Green Branch." It provides an overview of Daniel Green, the pioneer, followed by information about the second generation of Greens in Prince Edward Island. Emphasis then turns to the author's grandfather Owen Green and his descendants. The second file contains 151 pages copied from "The New World Book of Greens, Volume I" published in 1998 by Halbert's Family Heritage. The third file is comprised of correspondence between Owen Green and several archival repositories in Pennsylvania while he was continuing his family research from 1999-2000.

James Kirk family fonds

The fonds consists principally of written material, documents, and photographs relating to the lives of James and Dorothy Kirk who spent most of their lives in Calgary, Alberta. There are textual records of his military and railway careers, and some biographical information about his father Robert, as well as a few items concerning Robert's sister Elizabeth who married William Hutchinson of Lot 16 and sister Catherine who married John Nelson Burns of Freetown. There is a photograph and several clippings about the sailing career of Thomas Edward (Ted) Kirk, brother of James. A few family obituaries and an article (ca. 1997) about Beryl Kirk are also part of the fonds.

Henry E. Gallant fonds

A large portion of the 184-page ledger was never used. Pages 1- 47 and 181-184 contain technical notes about refrigeration in no apparent order. Entries are predominately for the years 1953 to 1955, but there are a few for 1979. An index section at the front of the book was used to record addresses as well as a few notes. Inserted within the pages were several printed instruction sheets and handwritten notes of a technical nature, assorted newspaper clippings, a wallet-size safe boating guide, and two colour photographs pertaining to family. They have been removed to a separate folder.

Summerside Fire Department fonds

The records consist of minutes for the years 1933-1993 and roll call books for 1931-1952, 1972, and 1974-1975. There is an account book showing the funds held by the department at the Bank of Nova Scotia from 1911-1960. Two notebooks dated 1973 and 1974 contain original handwritten minutes which were later recopied into the official record book. There is also a small notebook that was used to list out of town fires attended in the years 1962-1967, and a file of correspondence dated 1950 and 1954-1956.

Ralph Murray collection

The collection consists of two videocassettes capturing the final trip aboard the ferry "John Hamilton Gray" in 1997, interviews with Marine Atlantic employees, and several CBC news items about the end of the ferry service and the opening of the Confederation Bridge. A copy of an 1885 photograph depicts the arrival of mail by iceboat. One of the three men in the photo is Ralph Murray's great-grandfather Alexander (Sandy) Muttart. A digital copy of the second photograph shows Mr. Muttart ca. 1920 sitting on a verandah. The printed page is a copy of Mr. Murray's poem "The Wake" written in May 1999.
