Fonds consists of an autobiography and diary to 1799, correspondence (mostly arising from Strachan's roles as teacher, Archdeacon, and Bishop), letterbooks, and sermons. Topics addressed in the correspondence and letterbooks include: appointments to various positions, Strachan's early experiences in Upper Canada, situations in his parish in Cornwall (including the influence of the Methodists in the area), the challenges of teaching in a small working class community, various activities during the War of 1812 (including attacks at York and other sites, Strachan's views of the military leaders of the time, and a list of Indian Warriors), the union of Upper and Lower Canada, the clergy reserves, the financial support of the clergy, and other subjects. Loose correspondence and sermons are arranged chronologically. Letterbooks contain an internal chronological arrangement, and considerable overlap occurs among volumes.
