Michael Cassidy fonds

Fonds consists of records arising from Cassidy's role as leader of the New Democratic Party of Ontario from 1978 to 1981. Included are records arising from political business trips and campaigns, as well as incoming and outgoing correspondence, and speeches and press releases. Campaign material includes canvassing records, delegate registration records, clippings, photographs of Cassidy campaigning, and letters of congratulation. Correspondence relates to various political matters and is organized in a variety of arrangements. Correspondence for 1978 is arranged into: files of major issues (to be brought up in Legislature, or dealt with by the Party) and minor issues (to be dealt with by Cassidy or his office), arranged numerically by riding numbers; alphabetical files; and issues correspondence arranged alphabetically by correspondent. Correspondence from 1979 to 1980 was arranged into: numerical files; subject and issues files arranged alphabetically; and files relating to issues concerning Toronto. Fonds also contains issues files containing issues-related correspondence filed alphabetically by correspondent.

Item is one letter written by John Lawrence to Valentine Harden Tisdale who was born in 1815 in the Long Point area of Norfolk County, Ontario.

Subject of the letter consists of an account of the William Lyon MacKenzie uprising which led to the outbreak of the Upper Canada Rebellion.

William L. Garner fonds

Fonds consists of a diary of William L. Garner, written during combat between 28 July 1918 and 17 April 1919. Entries note movements of the troops, sights seen, and where Garner was billeted at night. He appears to have been in London on leave for part of the duration of the diary, and makes mention of a number of locations in Belgium and Germany (particularly Koln). Fonds also includes a newsclipping noting his war injury.

Henry Bull Wallis collection

Collection consists of textual records, photographs and documentary artifacts related to the involvement of Henry Bull Wallis in the defence against the Fenian Raids on Canada in 1866 and 1870, as well as related materials, assembled by his daughter, Rachel Wallis Black. The collection contains a letter sent by Colonel Butler to Henry Bull Wallis in June, 1870. Photographs include three cartes-de-visite photographs of Henry Bull Wallis, Colonel W. F. Butler and Colonel Bagot. The collection also contains a ribbon awarded to Henry Bull Wallis by the Ridgeway Battle-Field Association for service in the Battle of Ridgeway, near Fort Erie, Ontario, in 1866, as well as a Canadian General Service Medal awarded in 1899 for service defending against the Fenian Raid of 1870. Also included is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings from the Huntington Gleaner, written in 1936, regarding the history of the Fenian Raids of 1866 and 1870.

George Halsey Perley fonds

Fonds consists of correspondence, honours and appointments, copies and summaries of government and military correspondence, speeches and addresses, an illustrated chart, and clippings from various magazines. The majority of the records in this fonds consist of records collected by Perley on the incident with Col. Bruce. Also included are letters regarding election protests in Argenteuil and Conservative party leadership strategy. Fonds also includes regards relating to Perley's involvement with the Imperial War Graves Commission, and with his appointment as Canadian High Commissioner to London. Also included is a Privy Council report on the legality of the government's requisitioning of the ship, "C.A. Jacques" in 1917, and government correspondence and memoranda regarding the control of Canadian forces overseas. Fonds also includes biographical information about Sir George Perley, records arising from his appointment to K.D.M.G. in 1915, and his commission as Honourary Colonel in 1928. Also included are newspaper obituaries for Perley's son-in-law, Irving Perley-Robertson, some personal records, and some letters Perley sent home during the First World War.
