Leavitt (Lovett, Lovitt) family fonds

Fonds consists of microfilmed ships' accounts, insurance policies and papers for the following vessels: Sally (1796-1801); Dove (1797-99); Snow Mary (1803-04); Mary (1803-04); Susanna (1805); Cattle (1810); Paraquay (1849); General Higgins (1851-52); Hibernia (1789-91); Belmont (1858); Lampedo (1856-58); and Rosannah (1785).

The fonds also includes Leavitt family letters (mostly to Daniel, George and Joseph) for 1802-66; indentures and bonds (1798-1874); bills, receipts and promissory notes (1700-1856); Daniel Leavitt account book (1798); account book (1796-97); and Saint John City Poor House account book (1810-13).

James Moore family

This fonds consists mainly of correspondence exchanged between members of the Moore family in Fredericton and their relatives in New York State. The bulk of correspondence is addressed to either Maria (Moore) Carman or Eliza Moore. There are six letters from the 1830s addressed to Sarah Carman from her daughters-in-law in Bathurst, Musquash and St. Stephen. Also included in the fonds are legal documents such as deeds and estate and military papers.

The correspondence reflects the daily lives of upper class Loyalist women in New Brunswick. It also documents the ongoing connections with family in the United States and the movement back and forth for the generation growing up after the American Revolution. The women discuss their personal and social lives, as well as the lives of mutual friends and relatives. There is advice about the foolhardiness of a premature return to New York, interesting commentaries on the significance of correct spelling and grammar (written by an aunt to a schoolgirl), reports on sea travels, discussion of marital difficulties, expressions of anxiety over the possibility of renewed war between England and the United States and description of life in Bathurst, New Brunswick in 1830.

Documents have been separated into correspondence and legal papers. Each in turn has been arranged chronologically.

This fonds consists of bills and receipts for household and personal expenses of the Colin Campbell family. Most are for food, clothing, hairdressing, furnishing, painting, "the girls" schooling, and funeral expenses for "our dear little boy." There are also a few legal and financial papers.

This collection consists of three property deeds:

(1)Thomas Elms, innkeeper, of Saint John, N.B. and his wife Mary, 100 acres of land at Gagetown to Gilbert Pugsley, innkeeper, 8 March 1790; (2) William Peters and his wife, property on Carleton Street, in Fredericton, N.B. to Charles D. Everett and John H. Peters, 11 July 1826; and (3) Charles D. Everett, same property on Carleton Street, in Fredericton, N. B. to Thomas W. Peters, 7 March 1842.

Peter Miller fonds

The fonds consists of four primary categories of material: personal papers, school board materials, business records of the Miller farm and genealogical research. Most of the personal papers are letters, postcards and greeting cards sent to the Millers, materials from Peter Miller’s school days and from his son, Peter Miller Junior (who was Editor of the Ernesttown Secondary School newsletter in 1962 and 1963). There are also some materials related to local Methodist activities, particularly the Switzerville Busy Bee Mission Band. Peter Miller also kept various enumeration lists for Prince Edward, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Counties from 1938 until 1984 which were useful for his activities. Five property tax rolls for Richmond Township dated between 1873 and 1894 may have been used by Peter Miller’s grandfather. The school board materials include various accounts books, minutes of meetings of the Lennox and Addington Board, assessment reviews and correspondence. There are also Minute Books for Richmond S.S. 8 (1908-1942) and for Richmond S.S. 20 (1910-1948). The Miller Family Farm was a typical Ontario mixed farming operation which included dairy cattle and grains. Most activities were wound up following the death of Peter’s father in 1964. Farm records include bills, receipts, statements, lists of expenditures, circa 1916 until 1970. There are publications concerning breeding and showing livestock and instruction manuals for operating and repairing farm machinery. The genealogical research files contain Peter Miller’s notes about his own Miller line as well as the Husband, Martin and Switzer families. Brill family

This fonds consists of family records including David Brill's appointment as captain in Queen's County militia, 1795, and returns of his company, 1801. There also the wills of David Brill, 1825, and Stephen Thomas, 1826. Deeds for sale of property between family members, 1806 and 1844 are also included.

Ward Pendleton Family Association

This fonds consists of a number of original documents and original copies of documents supporting the Pendleton's claim to New Ireland Island in the Bay of Fundy. These documents include quit claim deeds, wills, and receipts. Also included are copies of minutes of meeting of the Ward Pendleton Family Association, correspondence concerning the claim to the Island, and notes pertaining to Pendleton family history.

Fraser family

The collection contains a muster roll of Captain John Fraser's company of the 1st Battalion of Gloucester militia based in Bathurst, 1839-1842. It includes lists of men at each annual muster, with their rank. The roll covers the period of the Aroostook War when the militia was called out throughout New Brunswick. It includes a list of aliens resident in the district for each year.

Also included are three letters, 1799-1800, from Alex Fraser to his parents in Inverness-shire, Scotland. They recount his voyage from Fort Augustus to Glasgow, then onward to Cove (Cobh), Ireland and St. Vincent in the West Indies. There is a letter dated 1812, appointing Alex Fraser to the militia in Inverness. An album containing coloured Christmas cards and a very few Easter and St. Valentine's cards from 1878 is also included. Four photographs of the family have been transferred to the Photograph Section.

Read Stone Company Fond

First accession contains items from six plywood boards used in the Grindstone Museum set up by Herbert C. Read in the “Carriage House” of the Marshlands Inn, which includes various materials pertaining to the Read Stone Company and grindstone production, including primarily photographs, as well as graphic drawings, newspaper clippings, and other textual records.

Second accession, contains materials pertaining to the Read Stone Company, grindstone production, and the Read family. Content includes primarily photographs, as well as postcards, articles, and a guest book from the Marshlands Inn which was formerly the Read home, and that contained a museum devoted to displaying the history of the grindstone industry in Sackville.
