Mark Young Stark family papers

Most of the records consist of letters written to Mark Young Stark and his wife, Agatha, in Dundas. Correspondents include friends and family in Scotland or friends and colleagues in Upper Canada. Of the Scottish letters, those from Stark’s stepmother (Mary Bannatyne) and aunt (Grace Young) are the most numerous. Some letters predate Stark’s immigration to Canada in 1833. Other letters were written to his wife and to their daughter, Mary Ann, after Stark’s death in 1866. Topics addressed in the letters revolve around personal and family news but occasionally touch on current events, including politics and ecclesiastical affairs.

Hanington family

The fonds consists of records belonging to several generations of the Hanington family. There is a letter, 1818, from William Hanington in Shediac to his son, John, in Halifax about the purchase of merchandise for his business. Two modern copies of this letter are also included. There are school certificates for good character and deportment belonging to Jane Chase from the New York Ward School, 1851 and 1853, and Mrs. Hunts Seminary for Young Ladies, 1858.

There are also travel documents belonging to Mabel Hanington for a journey through Siberia and Russia en route to Switzerland. There is also a published English language reader and a pamphlet in Chinese.

Mackenzie family fonds

Fonds constituted of ca. 300 photographs and ca. 100 postcards of military and WWI scenes, Donald and Addison Mackenzie’s political careers, and many of the Mackenzie family members. Also included is correspondence (1819-2002); drawings of the Dalziel barn; school textbooks and essays; published books; programs and papers from the York Historical Pioneer Society, the Horticultural Society, and the Conservation Society; tax notices and assessments; insurance forms; bills and receipts; and newspaper clippings. Mementos from the family’s pilgrimage to Vimy Ridge in 1936 include programs, a remembrance book, pilgrim lists, and a diary written by Major Mackenzie with accompanying transcript. Items from Donald and Major Mackenzie’s political careers include speeches, briefs, acts, Woodbridge Village Council agendas and minutes, election ballets and posters, and electoral boundary maps. Of particular interest is a WWI trench map from 1916 sent by Major Mackenzie to his family. Also A.A. Mackenzie's pre 1901 Victorian officer's infantry sword (used as a dress sword rather than in battle).

This fonds consists of correspondence addressed to Zula Hallett, Samuel J. Hallett, and Sophrinia Hallett (Dunphy) from their family and friends; greeting cards and postcards; a teacher's agreement; agreements of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows; minutes of the Baptist Church; various deeds, mortgages and other legal documents relating to property owned by the Halletts, Dunphys and the previous owners of that property; and a world map.

The map was transferred to PANB's cartographic section.

John Mann family genealogy

This collection consists primarily of transcriptions of letters written by John Mann to members of his family living in Scotland. A few original letters are also included. The correspondence offers accounts of members of the Mann family and their life in New Brunswick. There are also an original poem composed by John Mann in 1877, genealogical notes prepared by his descendants, and a single piece of correspondence pertaining to the compiling of this collection.

Fonds consists of original letters, certificates, sketches and maps pertaining to the family of Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Stewart of Peterborough, Ontario and their descendents. Included are letters to Ellen Dunlop written by Frances Stewart, Catharine Parr Traill, Harriet Beaufort, and others. Also included are pieces of sheet music and music certificates of Alice Roger Collins; medical certificates of Doctor Thomas Hay; newspaper clippings related to Katherine E. Wallis; and a scrapbook of nineteenth-century ferns and mosses of the United Kingdom.

The fonds consists of the personal papers and photographs of the Rennie family of St. John's, including sketches by Marjorie Rennie (1906), and by R. M. Rennie (1921 and undated); bank statements (1923-31, 1938); correspondence (1931,1936, 1937); Christmas cards (from Prime Minister of Newfoundland-1928, and Royal Canadian Legion-1984); poetry; song lyrics (1866); railway voucher for W. Picco for Royal Canadian Navy (1916). The fonds also includes newspaper clippings.

The fonds consists of records relating to the Rennie businesses including, client list (1982, 1984), R.M. Rennie professional appointment, correspondence with Agriculture Canada (1977), correspondence relating to property ownership (1892, 1893, 1896, 1963), record of labour book (1896-1897), documents relating to the Rennie Baking Company (1902, 1907), undated records of supplies for Rennie's Mill, sales and receipt books (1899-1900, 1956-1981), property maps of Whitbourne property for the National Defence (1742); Corner Brook Bowater's pulp and paper mill (1945); and lot of land leased to U.S.A (1942). The fonds also includes newspaper clippings relating to the Rennie businesses.
