The fonds consists of 15 diaries in the form of numbered booklets of around 30 - 32 pages each, handwritten, with the inclusive dates recorded on the front cover. The collection starts with Diary 13, March 11 to May 8, 1855, moves to Diaries 33 - 35, November 6, 1858 to June 20, 1859, and finally Diaries 45 - 55, December 18, 1860 to December 31, 1862. The location of the missing diaries, which presumably started with his incumbency at Portugal Cove and included a trip to Labrador and the death of his first wife in 1860, is unknown.

The diaries record the weather, the texts on which all his sermons were preached, the size of the congregations, number of communicants, amount of offetory and other collections, names of the sick and other parishioners visited, baptisms, churching of women, burials and occasional weddings. His duties took him on many journeys, walking, on horse back, by cart and by catamaran, to visit his various parishes, as well as on visits to his brother R. Malcolm Johnson, friends, fellow clergymen, church services, meetings and the Colonial Building. Personal activities, such as tending his horse and garden, reading, writing sermons and letters, listening to his children's lessons, picnicking and boating, are also listed. There is very little reflection on the politics or worldly news of the day.

The fonds consists of family photographs, correspondence, and genealogical records of the William Alexander Family. The photographs ([ca. 1966]-1980) show William Alexander, his wife Emilie Dannhauer, and their families, the Alexander children in Strathcona, Rycroft, and Grande Prairie, various boats on the Peace River, the Fort Fitzgerald wood camp, the Art Alexander family in Hudson's Hope, the O'Brien girls, Maggie and Emil Baron and their children, Ed and Bill Alexander in their army uniforms, and the Alexander gravesite and O'Brien Park.

The records were arranged in a series of binders and albums, as assembled by Jean Pearce. They have been selected and rearranged by the Archivist into chronological order. The photographs have been left in the order they were given by Jean; not every photograph in the albums was copied.

Fonds is comprised of the family papers of Sydney Helmer Standen and Euphemia Young Standen (nee McQueen). These papers include ancestral records and photographs dating from the 1860s to the 1970s and touch geographically on England, Scotland, Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. They pertain primarily to the families of Standen, McQueen, Drysdale, Ronald and Bensen and include such individuals as Sydney (Sid) Helmer Standen, Euphemia (Effie) Young Standen, Philip Andrew Standen, Neil McQueen Standen, Sydney Drysdale Standen, Eric James William Standen, James McQueen, Margaret (Maggie) McQueen, and Peter Ian McQueen. Subjects include migration, settlement, farming, education, teaching, military service and war, and domestic life.

This fonds consists of personal, business, and family records relating to members of the Miller family. It includes personal and family correspondence, 1879-1931 (9 items); an account book for farming operations, 1865-1875; farm receipts, 1863-1878; 11 receipts pertaining to the Methodist Church, 1898; four deeds for sale of land, 1875-1894, and one for the sale of a cow, 1893; and six fire insurance policies on houses in Bathurst, 1884-1896.

Also included are records of the Order of British Templars-Bathurst Lodge, including two copies of a Degree Book printed in Saint John (1867), a copy of a typed speech given by Miller, two books of accounts, and a listing of books missing from the lodge library (1874). There are also printed advertisements for Massey Harvesters and Steinberger Hendry Company globes.

The fonds consists of Clement Francis Cornwall's diaries recording life at Ashcroft Manor and as a senator in 1872 in Ottawa. It also contains Cornwall's bench books from ca. 1891 to 1906.

Fonds consists of correspondence, legal and financial documents, newspaper clippings, photographs and memorabilia relating to the Leggott family of Lakefield, Ontario.

The letters range over the period from 1864 to 1903, though there is nothing between 1874 and 1898. The correspondents include Edward Feild, Bishop of Newfoundland; Shears' future wife, Emma Laura Harvey; his brother Fred; and his good friend Robert Holland Taylor, Anglican incumbent of Brigus parish from the early 1860's to 1886, and of Baltimore, NJ, from at least 1898 to 1903. The five photographs, all albumen prints in carte-de-visite form, were in one envelope, but only one is identified and dated, July 14, 1865. The material has been arranged in two series, with an appendix: Series 1.00, Textual materials; Series 2.00, Photographs; Appendix 1, Correspondence and other material relating to the collection.
