Stewart family fonds

This fonds consists of two letterbooks as well as a "general ledger and notebook". The letterbooks, which span the years 1821 to 1836, contain handwritten transcriptions of letters to and from various business and government contacts concerning the Stewarts' estates in PEI. These letterbooks were maintained by David Stewart and his brother Robert. The "General Ledger and Permanent Notebook of Surveys, Accounts, etc." was kept by Robert Bruce Stewart between 1847 and 1864.

Rankin, Morrison family fonds

This fonds consists of eight letters written between members of the Rankin and Morrison families of Scotland and PEI. Neil, Coun Douly, and George are the three generations of Rankin family whose correspondence is documented in this fonds. Roderick Morrison, whose correspondence is also included in this fonds, was the tenth child of Hector and Marion. The correspondence relays information about immigrating to PEI, as well as information about friends and family members of the Rankin and Morrison clans. Letters from A.A. Bartlett, brother-in-law of C. D. Rankin, to Cowe Morrison in Mull, inquire about family members and reminisces about a visit to the Morrison family on the Isle of Mull. A newspaper clipping from the "Prince Edward Island Times" dated the 23 April 1836, contains information communicated by the government of the day to the residents of PEI, in which C. D. Rankin is frequently mentioned.

The fonds consists of church records for the Bedeque United Church from 1821-1985. Included are the baptismal (1821-1983), marriage (1828-1843, 1861-1878, 1883-1984), and burial records (1918-1975, 1977-1983), as well as minutes of trustees meetings from 1892 to 1986. The fonds also includes the original, photocopied and transcribed records of the births and marriages from 1821-1843.

This collection consists of two photographs, a postcard of St. Dunstan's Cathedral and Bishop's Palace, and a handwritten account of the births, deaths, and marriages of the Joseph Wise and Mary Burgoyne family.

The fonds consists of records relating to the St. Thomas, St. Mark, and St. Stephen churches in the New London parish, as well as St. John's church in St. Eleanors. All three churches in the New London parish are documented in a service register (1926-1940), vestry minutes (1941-1946), account books (1945-1947), collection books (1897-1926), minute books of the Women's Auxiliary (1907-1947), visitations (1889-1899, 1925) and lists of parishioners confirmed (1884-1933, 1939-1947) as well as communicates (date unknown). Also included are separate parish minute books (1885-1947) and minutes of Guild meetings (1902-1904) for St. Marks Parish as well as minute books (1904-1924) for St. Thomas' parish. Copied by James B. Millwaie in 1911 from New London parish registers are records of baptisms (1833-1947), marriages (1823-1947), and burials (1842-1947). Photocopies of the original documents are also included.

Records for St. John's church in St. Eleanors document the baptisms (1821-1871), burials (1832-1880), and marriages (1827-1889) within the parish.

The papers in the collection consist of the following series: records relating to radio station CFCY; reference and research files compiled for "Out of thin air"; taped interviews concerning the history of CFCY; audio tapes of program material from the Sleepytown Express program; research notes and documents concerning family members; ham radio material relating to W. K. Rogers; photographs relating to the Rogers family and to CFCY; and a collection of newspapers.

This collection consists of 338 photographs, 84 glass plate lantern slides, 1 print, and 1 carte-de-visite containing four images as well as their negatives. These photographs depict various Prince Edward Island subjects including prominent citizens, athletic teams, historic landmarks, events, public and commercial buildings, private dwellings, modes of transportation, landscapes, and cityscapes. Some of the images are not identified. Several of the photographs are oversized and are noted in the item listing.

Day book of general store, Lot 13, fonds

This fonds consists of a daybook which records both debits and credits on a daily basis from January 1824 to April 1826. Entries usually include name of customer, Lot number, items purchased or supplied, whether the purchase was in person or by another and the amount. Articles sold include groceries, liquor, tea, shoes, and hardware, while items received include meat, hay, and dry goods. Other entries are for work performed such as "13 days work on the Cora" or "5 days rafting", etc. Ownership of the store has not been determined. It appears to have been located in Lot 13, Prince Edward Island, and to have serviced Lots 5 through 17 including the ship-building yards. There is some indication that the owner was also a shipbuilder.

Hugo Fraser & Company fonds

The fonds consists of a book containing both daily entries of the Hugo Fraser & Company, as well as accounts of various individuals with the company from the 1820s through to the 1860s. The names of the company's clients, in many cases, also includes the lot number they are from.

Schedule of the names, ages, dates of entrances of the scholars to the Grammar School, Charlottetown, and the branches severally taught

The document is a memorial from Alex Brown, teacher of the grammar school to the President in Council, as required under an Act of the Legislature. It is signed by Thomas Adin, Rector of Charlotte Town, and was probably submitted in anticipation of the allowed grant from the Lieutenant-Governor. Document is inscribed "Read in Council, May 2nd. 1826". As required, the schedule includes names, ages, dates of entrance, and subjects studied by some 84 students who enrolled in the school from May 1825 to April 1826. A remarks column consists of dates of leaving and return of the students.
