Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent and Strathern

This collection documents the Duke's military activities at Gibraltar, Canada, and the West Indies. The majority of the correspondence is between Prince Edward and Colonel, later General, William Edmeston, however, there are a few letters to Edmeston from other military officers and administrators including I. Hale, G. Smyth, John Montrifor, G.H. Charlton, I.A. Vesey, and Lieutenant Colonel Scott. The letters were written from various locations: Gibraltar, Quebec, Halifax, St. Helen's, Hilsea, London, and Antrim and discuss the 50th Regiment of Foot and the Royal Fusiliers. The collection also contains two separate lists containing the names, age and height of soldiers transferred between the 50th Regiment of Foot and the Royal Fusiliers, one is dated 20 May 1791 and the other is undated; a three-page account, dated 11 April 1793, detailing a plot planned by four soldiers from the Royal Fusiliers to murder Prince Edward; and a copy of a four-page narrative, written on 20 February 1798, giving details of the battle fought by the Grenadiers of the 40th Regiment when the islands of Martinique, Grenada, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and Tobago were taken during the Seven Years War.

Peter Magowan letter

This collection consists of a duplicate copy of a letter dated l5 April 1807 from Peter Magowan to John Stewart. The letter contains information on political activities on Prince Edward Island including the meeting of the assembly, the formation of the Society of Loyal Electors, the establishment of a Court of Quarter Sessions and proceedings before the Supreme Court including the irregular admission of lawyers.

Peter Lash collection

The collection consists of records accumulated by lawyer Peter Lash. The origins and purpose of the collection is not known, but the records in the collection are a variety of business and property agreements from Ireland, originating from the city of Dublin and County Tipperary. The name William Curry, of Dublin, appears prominently in two of the three documents in the collection. Documents include deeds of co-partnership and rental indentures.

This fonds consists of a bound memorandum book kept by Jonathan Odell himself or his staff in the Provincial Secretary's Office. Entries refer to petitions for land grants, appointments in militia, sheriffs. Justices of the Peace and other officials, delivery of marriage licenses, aldermen of Saint John in 1790, 1796, postage payments, accounts for lumber, pens, potatoes and ashes.

Alexander McKenzie land documents

The collection is composed of two conveyances of land in Lot 24 to Alexander McKenzie of Brackley Point/Rustico: one of 100 acres from Samuel May Williams in 1809 and the second of 123 acres from James Hodges in 1817.

The collection consists of a 29x24 cm bound songbook containing 66 pp./33 l. of holograph music and lyrics in French, Italian and German from various composers including Beethoven, Weber. Paper watermarked 1819.

The collection consists of a leather bound volume, consisting mainly of handwritten transcriptions of a selection of Rossini's works. They are taken from the operas "Italian in Algiers", "Tancredi", and "Otello". Also included is one selection from the Saverio Mercadante (1795-1870) opera "El Puerto Abandonada". All the words are translated into Spanish. The volume bears several labels of "Academia de Musica de J.N. Loretta."

Brigadier J. P. Crowe collection

The majority of the collection consists of items relating to Edward James Jarvis (1788-1833). After studying law in London, England, from 1813-1816, Jarvis became a lawyer, notary, office holder, judge, and politician in Prince Edward Island. The collection contains Jarvis' journal, documenting a trip to Paris in 1814, and the wig he wore while acting as Chief justice of P.E.I. Also included are two items of correspondence written while in Malta, to relatives in New Brunswick. The first letter was written by Edward and his first wife, Anna Maria (Boyd), to Munson Jarvis, Edward's father, in Saint John and the second by Ann Maria to her sister Mrs. Robert Hagen in Saint John.

The collection also contains the marriage license of James Bardin Palmer (1771-1833) and Millicent Jones, who were married by T. Desbrisay on the 22 December 1803. Palmer was a land agent, lawyer, office holder, and politician in PEI. He was the son of Joseph Palmer and Susanna Bardin of Dublin, Ireland.
