Women's Study Group on Civic Affairs fonds

Fonds consists of committee minute books (1950-1958), cash books, "observer reports" from City Council meetings, correspondence, reports from municipal departments (e.g. Parks Board), copies of Peterborough City Council minutes (1950's) and newspaper clipping files relating to municipal operations in Peterborough during the 1950's - such as the Parks and Recreation Board, Police Commission, Health Department, parking, pollution of Little Lake, planning, transportation and civil defense; also newspaper clippings: related to Study Group's activities, Peterborough City Council activities, municipal elections, clippings related to the Consumers Gas/Public Utilities Commission introduction of natural gas into Peterborough, controversy related to municipal election ballot in the 1957 municipal election; membership records which include minutes of meetings, draft letters, telephone lists, membership information sheets outlining objectives and policies of Study Group, presentation notes; Municipal Council notes: including a typed report on Council meetings for the year 1955 up to middle of November, notes about municipal elections; flyers and pamphlets: including Consumers Gas flyer, PUC flyer, Otonabee Valley Conservation Association flyer, City Planning Committee Exhibition pamphlet, November 1946.

Wilson Conger fonds

Fonds consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, of Wilson S. Conger, by Canadian artist Paul Kane (1810-1871). The portrait depicts Conger seated with a document in his hand. This painting is an good example of Kane's early work as a portrait artist. Also two daybooks containing accounts for a Cobourg drygoods business owned by Wilson Conger when he lived in Cobourg.

William Langford fonds

Fonds consists of papers and some architectural plans relating to the personal and business life of William Langford. Included are: personal and business correspondence including some with the noted Toronto architectural firm Sproatt, Rolph and S.G. Curry; business notebooks; various financial records; building supply receipts from a number of Peterborough establishments; specifications for local building contracts, including painting and glazing specs for the John Wood house on Belmont Avenue; bank account records, tax and assessment receipts concerning various properties in Peterborough (1898-1929); Langford family estate records (1919). Also included are several architectural detail drawings in pencil, as well as blue prints for the John Wood residence, designed in 1905 by Sproatt and Rolph with S.G. Curry; architectural detail drawings and blue prints for the Robert Neill Shoe Store and Warehouse, George Street, Peterborough, by G.M. Miller and Company, Toronto, 1918.

William Hall Protestant Poor Trust fonds

Fonds consists of the minute books of the William Hall Protestant Poor Trust which operated in Peterborough (Ont.) from 1876 to 1978. The first volume covers 1876-1958 and the second volumes covers 1959-1978. Financial statements are included with the minutes of annual meetings.

William English collection

The collection consists of stereographic cards compiled by William English and family members, many of which are among the earliest known photographic images of Peterborough. At least 68 images in the collection consist of: early Peterborough cityscapes; downtown streetscapes; local schools (particularly Central School); churches (St John's, Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church); other local structures (including Court House, William English house, Sheridan house, hand-tinted view of the Rubidge family having tea, Examiner building, wrought iron bridge on Hunter street, Dixon's Dam); people (Peterborough County Council and Officers, 1863); several rugged landscapes views from Stoney Lake, Burleigh Rapids, dam at High Falls, Victoria Park, Jackson Park and other natural areas in Peterborogh County; several summer and winter logging views from Richard Meade's early "Canadian Scenery Series - Lumbering Operations" in the Stoney Lake and Burleigh Rapids area; cabinet card photographs of a snowshoe club in Peterborough. Many were taken by well known local photographers such as R.D. Ewing, G.B. Sproule, James Little and Richard Meade. Some are hand-tinted.

Walter Scott fonds

Fonds consists of a set of architectural drawings on paper, for a Neo-Classical residence identified as the Walter Scott house, possibly in Asphodel township in Peterborough County. The drawings show elevations, floor plans and detail drawings of Doric columns on the building.

Fonds consists of documents relating to the original Town and County of Peterborough Historical Society and the Victoria Museum. Specific items include: correspondence, minute book (including minutes of inaugural meeting of the Society in 1896), constitution, reports of regular meetings, declaration of incorporation of Peterborough Historical Society (1897), membership register of the Town and County of Peterborough Historical Society with the signatures of the original members, including Catherine Parr Traill, Vincent Clementi, H.T. Strickland (1896); bound visitor register for the Victoria Museum from opening day (1898-1906); early press clippings on the Victoria Museum; bound inventory of archaeological artifacts deposited with Victoria Museum by W.F. and L.C. Clarke (1915); material related to the early activities of the Ontario Historical Society.

Thomas Bradburn fonds

Fonds consists of a series of architectural drawings on linen of the "Proposed Town Hall and Opera House, Peterborough" (later Bradburn Opera House), rendered by Peterborough architect, John E. Belcher in 1872. These drawings are highlighted with a watercolour wash. They show elevations, cross-sections and floor plans.

The fonds consists of records documenting construction of St John's Anglican Church, Peterborough (Ont.) along with the early history of this significant local heritage site. Specific items include: original correspondence, accounts, plus receipts and statements from Kingston builder Joseph Scobell and contractors, documenting the construction of St John's Church (1835-1840); correspondence and reports of the Building Committee; documents relating to selection of site for St John's Church (1834); general correspondence relating to affairs of the church, including letter for Bishop Strachan (1830's-1840's); accounts (1835-1840); report of sale of church pews and list of parishoners that purchased pews; poster requesting funds for the church (1839); a concert programme for a Church benefit at Victoria Hall, Peterboro (1863); 2 microfilm reels of St John's Church records which include parish registers, registers of services and financial records; various church related programmes, pamphlets and histories; reproduction of floor plans and presentation drawings of west addition of offices, classrooms to St John's Anglican Church, by Craig and Zeidler, Architects (1965 circa).

Roger, first Presbyterian Minister at Peterborough (February 1834 to October 1857) which includes the marriage registration of Sandford Fleming and Jean Hall (January 1855); also New Year's greeting card from Rev James Potter (1906); "History of St Andrew's United Church, Peterborough, 1833-1933.
