Viewegar family fonds

The fonds consists of photographs taken by Hugo Viewegar and his son, Lute Vieweger. Of particular note are nine autochromes, 1913 - 1914, taken by Hugo Viewegar. The autochrome is a very rare early colour photographic process. The originals are 5"X7" and 3 1/2"X5" transparencies on glass plates. The subject matter is native people, Royal North West Mounted Police (RNWMP), family portraits, a house and a still life, all taken in Edmonton. Also by Hugo Viewegar are nine black and white photographs and four black and white negatives, 1913 - 1914, of homesteading, RNWMP, the City of Edmonton paddle steamer, and Edmonton scenes. Two of the prints are vintage albumen prints (RNWMP). The remainder of the above are modern prints. Also included are five black and white photographs and four black and white negatives, [193-], by Lute Vieweger, of riverboats, airplanes and Fort Chipewyan. All five prints are modern prints. Also included is an audio reel recording of an interview with Lute Vieweger about his life, recorded in 1974.

The fonds consists of images, originally dating 1920 to circa (ca.) 1955, of the Banff Springs Hotel and the Banff townsite and buildings, Angel Glacier near Jasper, Chateau Lake Louise, Central Park, the library, Burns' house in Calgary, views of the University of Alberta and the river valley in Edmonton, the interior of different homes in Edmonton including kitchens and living room with fireplaces and radios, and the interior of a cabin and St. Mark's Church, both at South Cooking Lake.

Viola Martin fonds

The fonds primarily consists of 24 oil paintings, painted from memory and photographs by Viola Martin specifically for the Provincial Archives of Alberta and donated to the Archives as the Burton Memorial Collection; the paintings are of various homes and scenes at Burtonsville, Waterways and Alberta Beach from the lives of Vi's parents, Cornelius and Louise Burton. The fonds also includes descriptions and photographs of the paintings, a publication about Burton family descendents <em>(The Burtons of Black Cape and their Descendents)</em>, newspaper clippings about Cornelius and Louise Burton, a small published booklet entitled <em>The Gaspé</em> with sketches by Vi Martin, a poem about Cornelius and Louise Burton, photographs of the Burton family and places of importance to the family, certificates for the Bituminous Sand Extraction Company, Limited and the publication <em>Incidents in the Life of John L. Sullivan and Other Famous People of Fifty Years Ago</em>.

Collection consists of copied photographs dating circa (ca.) 1900-1955 that were collected for use in her book, <em>Oh! The Coal Branch</em>. The photographs were borrowed by Toni Ross from various photographers, including Charles Lee, and they depict various people, views, buildings, machinery and accidents in mining towns such as Edson, Luscar, Cadomin and Mountain Park, Alberta. The collection also includes captions for the photographs and a book of ration coupons, likely from the 1940s.

The fonds consists of records relating to the Edmonton Normal School graduating class of 1940-1941 including the 1940-1941 yearbook, and graduate directory from the 25th reunion in 1966, a book created for the 50th reunion in 1991 including photographs, a type written memoir by Calvert created most likely for the 50th reunion including photographs, and photographs of Edmonton Normal School (now Corbett Hall, c. 1980s-90s), from a gathering of former students on May 18, 2003, and from the 60th anniversary of the graduating class in 2001.
