Nicolas and Erena Woronuk fonds

The fonds consists of two copies of a biographical account of Nicholas (Nylolai) Woronuk and family, written in Ukrainian by a niece, Mrs. John Bzovey of Rycroft. The document was typed and and edited by I. Goresky, of Edmonton, and tells of the family's epic journey from Edson to Grande Prairie in 1913. Included in the fonds are a shorter account of the story, in English, as published in "Ukrainians in Alberta"; additional hand written accounts from the Woronuk family in English and Ukrainian; and a letter from I. Goresky to Dr. Jerry Petryshyn referencing the history of Ukrainians in Alberta, and especially the Woronuk family.

The sub-series consists of original writings for the Introduction and Chapter 1 "Where the Rivers Flowed" of the history book Chepi Sepe, including articles on "How Spirit River Got its Name", "Dunvegan", "Flora and Fauna of the Area", "History of the Spirit River Settlement", "Pioneer English and Calkins", "The Bronco Creek District"and "The Happy Valley District".

Chapter 2 - "By Different Routes"

The sub-series consists of original writings or edited copies of Chapter 2, "By Different Routes" for the history book Chepi Sepe, which includes includes writings about people who came into the country via the trails and stopping places and also includes copies of portions of Hugh McIntyre's diary of 1912.

Chapter 3 - "The Ebb and Flow of Settlers"

The sub-series consists of original writings or edited copies of Chapter 2, "The Ebb and Flow of Settlers" for the history book Chepi Sepe which recounts the life of early settlers, of farming and forestry and of customs and traditions established by the many immigrants.

Mayer family fonds

The fonds consist of correspondence to Francis James Mayer as well as Richard James Neville Mayers from Hamilton Mack Laing and Wife Ethel Laing. Fonds include photographs taken by Hamilton Mack Laing documenting his and wife Ethels homesteading adventures in Comox and typed unpublished manuscript BayBrook Lifes Greatest Adventure. Fonds include handwritten and typed natural history articles that were published in various outdoor sport magazines. Copies of magazine articles are also include in fonds. Hamilton Mack Laing was a well known wildlife author, photographer and museum collector, and artist, and made his home in Comox on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Born in 1883 in Ontario, Laing grew up on a Manitoba farm, attended art school in New York, and traveled the American west before becoming a school principal, photographer, writer, naturalist, bird collector, and nut farmer during his 99 years. He was well known in hunting and wildlife circles on Vancouver Island.
