The fonds consists of records from Gil Cardinal’s independent and freelance projects; the film companies co-founded by Cardinal (Great Plains Productions, Kanata Productions, Strange Empire Productions); and his work for NFB, BBC, or other broadcasters.
The textual materials contain the complete business records of Great Plains Productions, creative records for specific projects (including scripts, notebooks, shot lists, story boards, and editing notes), administrative records for specific projects (including contracts, financial records, grant applications, and correspondence), developmental records related to unrealized projects, and personal records (including correspondence, speaking notes, speeches, and teaching material).
The films consist of home movies from Cardinal’s foster family (some of which were used as part of Foster Child); a tour of the Canadian Museum of Civilization with its architect, Douglas Cardinal; and release prints of Foster Child.
The videocassettes consist of original shooting tapes and completed masters of several projects. Most prominent among these are My Partners, My People, Our Home and Native Land, The Great Possibility, and David with F.A.S. There are also masters, but not shooting tapes, for several other projects including Big Bear, Chiefs (for both episodes directed by Cardinal), Totem, and others. Some of these masters are on DVD as well as videocassette.
The photographs, negatives, and slides consist of images shot by Cardinal during the course of filming, images of special events, and family photos.
The fonds consists of family photos and personal records of Marie-Claire Lorieau, including a scrapbook, an autobiography and press clippings related to Henri Garnier, and the marriage certificate of her grandfather, Alcibiade Lamoureaux, dating from 1883.<br>
Also included is a recorded radio coverage of the 25 years of Edmonton Opera, with interviews including Lucien Lorieau, and a booklet about the first years of the Edmonton Opera.

The fonds consists of images, originally dating circa (ca.) 1909 to 1917 of students at the Ukrainian Institute of Peter Mohyla, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, students at the St. Boniface Seminary (likely Manitoba), a cultural group and a funeral at St. Josaphat Church in Edmonton, Alberta, Ukrainian priests and bishops and a confirmation class.

The fonds consists of the typewritten manuscript of <em>Le rayonnement d'une uvre dans le nord albertain</em> by Marie-Anna Adèle Roy. The manuscript has 108 pages of text, and 35 photographs and 3 maps illustrating the text. The manuscript is inscribed: "Collège de Gravelbourg, Section historique. En hommage!" It is composed of two parts: one, of 20 pages, with the title "Aux missionnaires et aux pionniers de La-Rivière-La-Paix", which locates the region, explains the origin of its name and tells the settling story of this part of Alberta; the other, called "Tangent", is the history of the village with the same name, founded in 1927, 300 km North-West of Edmonton. The manuscript ends the evocation of pioneers' life with the narrative of the 50th anniversary's ceremonies of the neighbour parishes Fahler, Donnelly and Girouxville on the 23rd of June, 1963.
