Fonds consists of materials collected during trips to Newfoundland In 1920, 1921 and 1929. It includes music composition books containing field notes, musical transcriptions and textual transcriptions; correspondence to and from her family; drafts of Newfoundland Days, an unpublished article written for Scribner's magazine and book reviews pertaining to Ballads and Sea Songs of Newfoundland.

The fonds also includes a photocopy of Robert D. Madison's booklet Newfoundland Summers: The Ballad Collecting of Elisabeth Bristol Greenleaf

Fonds consists primarily of material collected for Coldwell's doctoral thesis, Treasure Stories and Beliefs in Atlantic Canada, and pertains to folk narrative about folksong and treasure: bibliographic information pertaining to publications on treasure handwritten on index cards; miscellaneous clippings and photocopies of published articles on various subjects such as folksongs, pirates and treasures; miscellaneous notes on folksongs, legends, pirates and treasures; bibliographical information and notes on the folksong Barbara Allen; six hundred index cards containing information about treasures, arranged by motif number; four hundred index cards containing photocopied clippings of treasure stories, with references; several drafts of her doctoral thesis with notes; Coldwell manuscripts entitled Pirate Songs, Internal and External Assessments of a Culture: The Blaskets, Treasure and the Folktale, Folksong Theory in the Twentieth Century, Folklore as Fiction: the Writings of L.M. Montgomery, Common Customs; various lecture notes and photocopied journal articles; book catalogues; maps.

The fonds represents the Trinity branch of the WPA in Newfoundland, and consists of two printed annual reports of the WPA, Newfoundland, 1918 and 1945, a small amount of correspondence, knitting patterns and records of material issued and work returned. There is also a file of news clippings relating to members of the armed forces from the Trinity area, including some obituaries. The fonds was assembled by Rupert Morris and contained some items which have been removed.

The fonds consists of a collection of letters, postcards, photographs, newspaper clippings, minutes of barracks committee meetings, official memos, U.S. Base publications, theatre programs and schedules, poems, miscellaneous receipts, stamped envelopes, a map and beer mat, which were pasted into two scrapbooks. The items were arranged chronologically as they were received by Mrs. Elsie P. Gilpatrick from her husband, Jerome E. Gilpatrick, while he was serving in Argentia, Newfoundland, from March 1941 to August 1942.

The most significant part of the collection is the correspondence, detailing the daily life, concerns and complaints of the men during the construction of the U.S. Naval Base, and the personal concerns of Mr. Gilpatrick and his family. To round out his description, Mr. Gilpatrick also sent ephemera such as the theatre programs, the base newsletter, photographs and official memos, resulting in an interesting portrait of this little American colony in Newfoundland in the early years of World War Two. There is some incidental commentary on the wider arena of the war and of Newfoundland.

The scrapbooks were carefully dismembered after taking sample photographs of their condition and compiling a page by page index of their contents. The material has been arranged in series according to form and function, and in the chronological order of their creation, as far as possible. Series are as follows: Series 1.00, Correspondence; Series 2.00, Photographs; Series 3.00, Newspaper clippings; Series 4.00, Memos; Series 5.00, Minutes; Series 6.00, Publications; Series 7.00, Theatre schedules; Series 8.00, Poems; Series 9.00, Miscellanea.

The fonds consists of one notebook, containing the minutes of the Progressive Painters' Group (1956-1961), and career based biographical notes of Millicent King Penney, dated 1978.

This fonds contains 123 watercolours of NB wildflowers painted by Elizabeth Beckwith Hazen. Most are dated between 1867 and 1873.

The watercolours that are stored in Box 1 (1 - 52) are loose, and mostly undated. The watercolours in Box 3 (53 - 121) are part of a book New Brunswick Wild Flowers and are loose, with some dates. Many of the watercolours were matted for exhibits. The mattes have since been removed and are stored in Box 2.

This fonds documents aspects Julia Catherine Beckwith Hart's literary career and personal life. It includes original manuscripts of Edith or the Doom (volumes 1 and 2), letters, reviews, and biographical material including letters from David Bugbee, J. Hammond, John S. Saunders, and George Roberts.

The bulk of this fonds documents the literary career of John Reade. It includes correspondence and manuscripts, as well as newspaper clippings and scrapbooks of Reade's poems, certificates of John Reade's ordination (as a deacon and as a priest), affidavits, and biographical articles. Several letters are from Charles G D Roberts (1885) and Archibald Lampman (1889); there is also correspondence from F R Robinson regarding John Reade's leaving the ministry.

This fonds also contains correspondence addressed to and written by individuals other than John Reade, some of which is on a religious theme. Personal items include Annie Reade's diplomas, Mary Reade's will, Reade family photographs and an autograph book inscribed to John Reade from George Sully

This fonds documents Raymond Fraser's life as a writer of poetry and prose beginning in the 1960s. It also highlights his relationships with business associates, family, and friends, including some who are or were part of the Canadian literary scene. In addition, this fonds sheds light on his personal activities, most notably his involvement with The Flat Earth Society, which he co-founded with Leo Ferrari and Alden Nowlan in 1970.

It contains business and personal correspondence, literary manuscripts and typescripts of published and unpublished works, published copies of newspaper articles, reviews of published works, and newspaper clippings. A few personal and business records, including royalty statements, income tax returns, copyright and business registrations, school records, and materials relating to The Flat Earth Society are also included.

This fonds consists of personal records of both George T. Taylor and William P. Taylor. Included is a single diary (1869-1871) belonging to William P. Taylor in which he records details of his activities as a carpenter and joiner, as well as those of his sons, John and George. He also mentions George's work as a photographer and John's work as a builder and repairer of steam engines, along with local events, notably, fires, earthquakes, and hangings.

George T. Taylor's records include a diary (1901-1905) and a notebook (pre-1900) pertaining to his career as a photographer. The diary contains information on his daily activities, his business and personal finances, local and family events, and his travels, including his 1901 canoe trips in Oromocto Lake and French Lake.

His undated notebook records details of a photographic tour, which included stops at Sussex, Pointe-du-Chêne, Shediac, Richibucto, Chatham, Bathurst, Tobique, and Grand Falls. It also includes a sketch titled "North West," a listing of trip expenses, and listings of "card pictures" or photographs taken. There are also copies of issues of "Photographic Notes" (1860); "The Philadelphia Photographer" (1876-1868); "The Photographic Times" (1871, 1877); Anthony's "Photographic Bulletin" (1874); "The Photographic Journal", the "Journal of the Photographic Society" (1859-1867); indexes of the latter publication for the years 1859 and 1860; and George Taylor's copy of "The Painter, Gilder and Varnisher's Companion," published in 1868.

Also included are a pass issued in 1863 by Lieutenant-Governor Arthur H. Gordon to George Taylor granting him the authority to take photographs throughout the province; a letter to Taylor (1911) regarding a fire insurance policy; transcriptions of extracts of notices published in "The Sentinel and New Brunswick General Advertiser" (1939) relating to the Bank of British North America, the Bank of New Brunswick, and the Commercial Bank of New Brunswick; and a transcription of an extract of Edmund Ward's account of his 1839 tour through northern and eastern New Brunswick.

Lastly, the fonds contains a watercolour depicting hunters at a campsite, possibly by George T. Taylor, and more than 913 photographs or negatives taken by or credited to George T. Taylor. Photographs that may have been taken by a photographer other than George Taylor have been identified. Many of Taylor's photographs are of Fredericton and area (Oromocto, Marysville, Devon) landmarks, street scenes, commercial enterprises, residences, and special events. There are photographs of businesses, residences, scenes, and landscapes taken in the Grand Falls, Boiestown, Edmundston, and Tobique areas, as well as in other communities in the province. Also included are portrait photographs, photos of Taylor family members, and shots of construction sites (bridges and railways) and steamboats on the lower St. John River.
