Allan Bevan fonds

Fonds contains textual records relating to the history of the activities of the Dalhousie University English Department and to Bevan's academic activities. The fonds consist of research notes generated during Bevan's study of Dryden's literature; academic and departmental correspondence and documentation created while Bevan was head of the English department and afterwards; documents and correspondence relating to operations at the Dalhousie Review from 1972-1980; fiction and other writings; material pertaining to courses he taught from 1949 to 1976; and various undated papers written by his students.

Fonds consists of sensitive material regarding chemical warfare. These papers include correspondence, research, reports, notebooks, articles, and manuals. Also included is an unpublished manuscript titled "Adventures of a Chemist in Search of Poisons" written by Dr. Young. The manuscript tells of some of his experiences during his twenty-five years as a forensic chemist.

Fonds consists of patient records, manuscripts, lecture notes, course material, correspondence, published articles, speeches, photographs, subject files, and papers of various professional associations, all created or collected by Dr. Jones during his career.

The materials in this fonds were generated primarily as a result of Dr. Jones' work as a Psychiatrist in Halifax and as a faculty member at Dalhousie University. Dr. Jones was a member of many associations and the bulk of this collection consists of meeting minutes and correspondence related to these associations.

Fonds contains both original records and reproductions of materials related to Reverend Thomas McCulloch, including one glass plate of an etching of McCulloch, a hand-written paper concerning vegetation in the Minas Basin, shorthand notes, a ticket for McCulloch’s moral philosophy course at Dalhousie College, microfilmed copies of three books by McCulloch, a Dalhousie thesis discussing McCulloch and the Nova Scotia educational system, and correspondence with Sam Cunard, Lord Dalhousie, the University of Edinburgh, and the Wernerian Natural History Society.
