University of the Air

University of the air was a distance learning initiative started by CTV's regional television affiliates, to offer degree-related video courses, taught by University professors around the country. Production of University of the Air started in 1966, and continued until 1983. The University of the Air courses were structured into series, around a central theme, and divided into 5 episodes. This collection comprises four such series which were produced in atlantic Canada, and hosted by Dalhousie University Faculty. Series one is entitled "The Oceans", series two is "The Structure of Sound", series three is "20th Century Latin America: Why Revolution", and series four is "Textiles: Their Development and Effects".

Thomas McCulloch fonds

Fonds contains both original records and reproductions of materials related to Reverend Thomas McCulloch, including one glass plate of an etching of McCulloch, a hand-written paper concerning vegetation in the Minas Basin, shorthand notes, a ticket for McCulloch’s moral philosophy course at Dalhousie College, microfilmed copies of three books by McCulloch, a Dalhousie thesis discussing McCulloch and the Nova Scotia educational system, and correspondence with Sam Cunard, Lord Dalhousie, the University of Edinburgh, and the Wernerian Natural History Society.

Technical University of Nova Scotia fonds

Fonds consists of the records of the Technical University of Nova Scotia, predominanty from its first 40 years as the Nova Scotia Technical College and from its final decade before amalgamation with Dalhousie University.

College governance is well documented through the minutes and correspondence of the Board of Governors and the Senate, and the President’s records.

The administration of technical education courses in communities throughout Nova Scotia, 1907-1947, is minutely detailed in the records of the Director of Technical Education, as well as through the series of beautiful glass plate negatives of Technical Education classes.

The Public Relations office created files, photographs, sound and video recordings of events, faculty, staff and students of TUNS.

A selection of student records is available in the series of records from the Registrar’s Office; however access is restricted to protect privacy.

The development of the TUNS campus is well documented through construction photographs, aerial photographs, historical overviews, and files on land acquisition and renovations to historic buildings.

Robert O. Jones fonds

Fonds consists of patient records, manuscripts, lecture notes, course material, correspondence, published articles, speeches, photographs, subject files, and papers of various professional associations, all created or collected by Dr. Jones during his career.

The materials in this fonds were generated primarily as a result of Dr. Jones' work as a Psychiatrist in Halifax and as a faculty member at Dalhousie University. Dr. Jones was a member of many associations and the bulk of this collection consists of meeting minutes and correspondence related to these associations.
