Marian Binkley fonds

Fonds consist of records related to Marian Binkley's extensive research studies on the fishing industry, particularly the health and safety of fishermen and the effects of the industry on their wives and families. Population data and research on the people of Fogo Island over a period of one hundred years is also included. Records consist of correspondence, surveys with fishermen and their wives, research on the fishing industry (particuarly with regard to health problems and fatalities), notes on findings and research, interview transcripts, and audio recordings of the interviews.

Freeman F. Tupper fonds

Fonds consists of research notes and materials on the history of Nova Scotia and, more specifically, Liverpool and its prominent families, including family trees and hand-drawn annotated maps. Also included are many manuscripts on a variety of topics relating to Tupper's historical research, ranging from John Cabot and the early explorers to lesser-known local events in the history of Nova Scotia. Also present is a small collection of personal diaries and copies of deeds and legal documents from the Tupper family.

Fonds comprises family correspondence (including that of his father, Hugh Ross), matriculation records, testimonial letters, personal account books, a diary, school inspectors' reports and other papers and bonds.

George Farquhar fonds

This fonds consists primarily of records related to the Board of Governors collected by Farquhar during his time on the board, including minutes; the report A Survey and Plan of Fund-raising for Dalhousie University; and a file of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and publications related to President Stanley Carleton’s resignation.

The fonds also includes some other miscellaneous materials collected by Farquhar related to the history of Dalhousie or the province, and associations/events with which he was involved. These records include pamphlets, song books, biographical sketches of some notable Nova Scotians, and a number of event programs and invitations.

Robert MacGregor Dawson fonds

Approximately half of the fonds is taken up with general research notes accumulated by Dawson during his working life, consisting of newspaper clipping, hand-written notes and assorted print materials (1917-1958). As well, there is a considerable but not comprehensive body of material relating to his publications, including research notes and correspondence, handwritten and typed drafts, proofs and copies of the finished publications (ca. 1920-1961).

The fonds has a small amount of personal and family papers (ca. 1900-1927), professional correspondence (ca. 1921-1951) and personal correspondence (1899-1950). Finally there are over 160 photographs of Dawson’s family and homes (1895-195-), of acquaintances from his student days at Dalhousie (1915-1920), and 4 photograph albums (undated).

Personal papers of George Frederick Pearson

File comprises letters from Marshall Saunders, enclosing a sermon, "The Value of Higher Education from a Woman's Point of View," and his own "Report of a committee headed by G. Fred Pearson regarding dissatisfaction with Carleton Stanley, made to the Board of Governors of Dalhousie University, May 21, 1932."

Avis (Marshall) McCurdy fonds

Fonds comprises exam questions, debating notes, dance cards, invitations, sorority notes, pins and other memorabilia from McCurdy's student years at Dalhousie University. There are also records (correspondence, financial statements, clippings, menus) from university reunions in 1938, 1967 and 1977.

William Jarvis McCurdy fonds

Fonds consists primarily of correspondence and records pertaining to the Dalhousie Class of 1926 and William Jarvis McCurdy. Financial records include class contributions and invoice payments; correspondence includes letters exchanged between McCurdy and various classmates, letters to Elinor Barnstead and a letter from Elinor Barnstead to Wilfrid Creighton.

McCurdy's personal records include a newspaper announcement of his 1929 engagement to Avis Marshall, his 1931 doctoral thesis from Harvard University, and the memorial service program of his death in 1988.

Eliza Ritchie fonds

Fonds consists of a printed copy of Ritchie's thesis, completed in 1889 at Cornell University; two essay offprints from The Dalhousie Review; and a hand-bound catalogue of Ritchie's book collection, with her personal bookplate on the endpapers.
