Allison and Ruby (Dennis) Profitt collection

This collection consists of the records of Allison Profitt and his wife Ruby Dennis Profitt of Lower Freetown, Prince Edward Island. The records include correspondence, notebooks, clippings, photographs, and other material. The collection is divided into two series: Allison Profitt and Ruby Dennis Profitt.

This fonds consists of 8 diaries of Andrew MacLeod copied onto two 35 mm microfilm reels. The first reel was filmed in December 1984 and contains 7 volumes spanning the time period 1902-1924, 1928-1936, and 1939-1942. The second reel, filmed in April 1985, contains 1 volume spanning the period 1936-1939.

In his diary entries, Andrew describes the weather conditions, his daily farm activities as well as those of members of his family, the places and people they visited, and those individuals who visited the farm. He gives accounts of events which occurred in the Burlington/Irishtown area including Sunday School picnics, prayer meetings, funerals, and weddings.

This collection consists of a microfilm copy of the diary of Violet Goldsmith dated 7 June 1900 to 15 March 1906. It contains accounts of daily activities in the Goldsmith household, Violet's teaching experiences, and her trip to England in May 1901. Also included are biographical notes on Rev. John Goldsmith and Anna Goldsmith as well as 8 post cards and photographs depicting Prince of Wales College, St. Paul's Church, and St. Peter's Cathedral.

Arthur Dickieson family (New Glasgow, P.E.I.) diary and account book

This fonds consists of a volume containing household accounts as well as accounts with various individuals. In the latter case indication is rarely given as to the reason for the amount listed. The volume also contains a brief diary (Jan-April 1914) kept by Harriet Dickieson in which she notes her daily activities such as cleaning, sewing, making butter and soap as well as visits to and from neighbours, activities of her children, church and community happenings. a few pages include "New Glasgow notes".

Beairsto family fonds

This fonds consists of records belonging to the Beairsto family of Malpeque, Prince Edward Island. The records include Benjamin Beairsto's magistrate book (1851-1869) and a North Shore House Hotel ledger (1889-1903), the back section of which was used as a diary by Ralph Beairsto, documenting farm life (1933-1938). A small notebook diary for October 1920 to January 1921 has also been attributed to Ralph Beairso. The fonds also contains a post-1888 photo of North Shore House Hotel and a newspaper article about the hotel (1972). Also, the fonds consists of a book that appears to have been used by at least three individuals as a diary, including a young woman attending college in Charlottetown, an unidentified individual (April 1912), and another individual (April to June 1913, 1938-1940). The handwriting for the 1913 and 1938-1940 entries matches that found in other diaries in the fonds which have been attributed by the donor to Ralph Beairsto. The book also includes loose papers listing names, household and farm item, and prices. The fonds also includes a ledger listing names of individuals hired and method of payment (1893-ca. 1935) and as well as accounts (1935-1949). Finally, there are two crayon portraits [1880-1899] of the second generation to own and operate North Shore House, Benjamin Beairsto and his wife, Ann MacNutt.

David Sabey Pound fonds

This fonds consists of a memo book kept by David Sabey Pound between 1 July 1900 and 25 August 1900. The volume contains daily entries of trains leaving and arriving at the Charlottetown station. Information includes the time and place of departure of the train, the engine number, who the fireman and conductor were, the time of the arrival, and remarks about the weather.

The fonds consists of a series of diaries from 1939 to 1979. Each covers a period of approximately five or six years with entries for the same day of each year written on the same page. Entries contain information about the weather, farm chores, family and community events. At the end of each diary there is a section containing items of interest such as genealogical information, deaths, marriages, fires, and community happenings from the area of Freetown, Bedeque, Wiltshire, and Kensington.

The fonds consists of personal and business papers, correspondence, sketchbooks, writings, photographs, and other records belonging to Erica Rutherford (1923-2008). The records, which span the years ca. 1930s-2005, document Rutherford's various careers as an actor, set designer, director painter, printmaker, teacher, illustrator, and writer. The fonds also consists of personal papers which provide insight into the private life of an individual who struggled with gender identity from a young age, ultimately undergoing transsexual surgery to live her life as a woman. The fonds has been divided

The fonds consists of the diaries of George MacDonald dating 1909-1925 and 1928-1939. The diaries contain an account of farm life including comments on the weather, daily farm activities and the activities of family members, information about crops and livestock, recipes, and accounts.

Gertrude MacMillan collection

The collection consists of two diaries of Gertrude MacMillan covering 1 January 1910 through 25 May 1910. The diaries are a daily account of rural family farm life. Outdoor chores include cutting and sawing wood, separating milk, thrashing, slaughtering pigs, and hauling manure. Helena "Wilhelmina" (Gertrude's younger sister) and Florence Coffin (her cousin who lived with the family) went to school, but Gertrude stayed at home and her diary records homemaking tasks such as baking and sewing. Gertrude also recounts visitors' names, passersby, pedlars, mail delivery, and purchasing household supplies and foodstuffs. Other than a sprained ankle, the only mention of Gertrude being ill is a sore eye on 25 May 1910, the last diary entry. The collection also includes a name key (to identify people mentioned in the diaries), two portrait photographs (one of Gertrude and one of her parents and sister) and two newspaper clippings regarding Gertrude's death in 1910.
