This record contains photostat copies of 6 letters written by General James Wolfe about the 1759 campaign.

The letter, dated 20 January 1813, contains a list of supplies that men from the company were supposed to bring with them if assembled in a case of emergency. The list included clothing, a blanket and some sort of carrying case.

This fonds consists of contemporary copies of letters to Captain R. Gibbon and Sgt. Peter Crook of the British garrison from the citizens of Eastport, Maine in 1818 and their replies. The correspondence discusses the return of Moose Island to the United States. It gives details of the handing-over ceremony and expresses the high esteem of the citizens for the conduct of Capt. Gibbon and his men toward them.

Most of the papers deal with Bell's activities as part of the Hastings Militia. Bell served under his friend, John Ferguson, and in 1825 succeeded him as colonel in command of the 1st Regiment, Hastings Militia. There is a small quantity of personal correspondence and 23 items relating to his role as Justice of the Peace and Coroner. Also included is a small file of correspondence from Robert Laing, who succeded Bell as schoolmaster on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Reserve. This fonds consists of a letter book containing copies of John Harvey's confidential letters to Lord Durham during the period that Durham was Governor General of British North America (29 May to 29 September 1838). Harvey discusses the need for reform, supports Durham's actions and discusses the Maine boundary issue.
